When Big Jim is delirious and thinks The Lone Prospector is a chicken, The Lone Prospector removes a knife from the table and hides it in the bed. In one of the next shots, the knife is back on the table. Then in the next shot, it is gone again.
When the Tramp is looking at his paper "compass", the wide shots show him wearing gloves; however, in the close-ups of his hands, he is not wearing gloves.
In the dancing scene with Georgia and The Lone Prospector, at first he is holding the cane straight and trying to keep his trousers up with his right hand. After the scene change, he is holding the cane upside down ,and he uses the bent part of the cane to keep his trousers up.
When Georgia enters The Lone Prospector's cabin after having not shown up for New Year's Eve dinner, she is accompanied by Jack "the ladies man". At first, Jack is holding a pistol in his right hand. When the scene cuts away from him and then back, the gun is gone.
In the 1942 sound version, Tom Murray's character is spelled Black Larsen on the "Wanted" ad, but Black Larson in the end credits.
When The Lone Prospector is walking through the mountains at the beginning of the movie and is followed by the bear they both pass the same piece of scenery three or four times.
The second cabin scene where they teeter over the edge of a cliff is supposed to be taking place in the daytime. But gaps in the planks of wood making up the cabin reveal a dark background indicating the film was shot indoors on a stage. When the cabin is tilting back and forth, a stage light is occasionally visible through a gap in the upper right side of the cabin wall.
