Mary Reid, an American girl who fails in Paris after studying music, becomes a reigning favorite on the stage. She falls in love with Douglas Vantine, an American millionaire, engaged to another girl. His brother, Robert, marries the White Moth, as Mary is known, in order to forestall what he thinks will be a misalliance. Eventually Robert learns to love her and they find happiness together.
