George Arliss made six silents films, four of which were remade by him as sound films. In these cases: THE RULING PASSION (remade as THE MILLIONAIRE), DISRAELI, THE MAN WHO PLAYED GOD, THE GREEN GODDESS (all remade under their original titles), we have an actor who was able to improve on his playing for the silent camera and perfect his definitive interpretations for Warner Bros. sound films.
Three of these silent performances are lost: THE RULING PASSION, THE MAN WHO PLAYED GOD, and DISRAELI (except for one reel) are all lost.
THE DEVIL survives and is on DVD. THE GREEN GODDESS (silent) survives and is available from private collectors.
The only missing film is $20 A WEEK, which does survive at LOC, but is not available to the public on DVD as yet.
