This was the first cooperation of Carl Schenstrøm and Harald Madsen, and 88 years later, it's still fun to watch (for me at least).
The two (anti-)heroes who go by so many names (let's call them Pat & Patachon as it says on my DVD box) play traveling knife sharpeners, as well as detectives, in this lovable old piece. They research the case of a make-believe count flirting with a rich farmer's daughter while being the longtime fiancé of a struggling film actress. Many great scenes evolve in the subplot of a filming on a Danish beach, most prominently with a biplane and its mishaps.
As old as it is, and as cut-up as the German TV version in 24 minutes runtime (with possibly overdosed voice-over by Hanns Dieter Hüsch), the power of Danish film-making still gets across very well. Not only Chaplin or Lloyd did make memorable films way back then.
I bought this in a 7-DVD Kinowelt box containing 32 "movies" (or what TV reuse left of them), at bargain €12, and enjoyed it very much. Over the present merry season, I'll watch them all, and let you know what I think :) This one gets 8/10 from me.
