Recently, Turner Classic Movies showed about a dozen Bobby Bumps cartoons. The Bumps films were generally very well made for the time...and Bray Studios should have been proud of them. However, I was shocked when they showed this particular one, as the quality of the artwork dropped significantly over the 1915-1920 installments of the series. The nice shading and quality drawings were replaced with flatter and crappier looking animation....and perhaps this is why the series ended just a few years later. You just cannot drop your quality significantly without losing your audience.
In this story, Bobby is doing what he frequently does....he's breaking the law. In this case, he's fishing and hunting in places where the signs clearly say he cannot. The Sheriff isn't particularly pleased and this leads to Bobby running from the law.
The story is also not particularly inspired....and it's the only film TCM showed that I frankly didn't like. Not worth seeing unless you want to see all the Bumps films.
