The Antics of Ann (1917) -- Lost Silent
PamelaShort16 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Spunky Ann Wharton ( Ann Pennington ) is a mischievous pupil at the Bredwell Seminary and soon faces expulsion for flinging a spoonful of cereal that lands on Mrs. Bredwell's ( Charlotte Granville ) face. Next she sees her friend Tom Randall ( Harry Ham ) and his classmates playing football, the lively girl dresses in boys' clothing and joins them. Mrs. Bredwell scolds her, but an unfortunate misunderstanding occurs when Tom brings her clothes. Mrs. Bredwell writes a letter to her father informing him of her expulsion. When Ann tries to intercept the letter, she runs into Tom and arrives home with him. After Mr. Wharton ( William T. Carleton ) sends Tom away, Ann shames the Whartons at a summer resort by appearing in a one-piece bathing suit and then shockingly impersonates a Russian ballet star. Next, Ann learns her sister Olive wants to marry fortune hunter Gordon Trent ( Crauford Kent ), so Ann compromises herself in Trent's room to save her sister. After Ann runs away and convinces Tom of her innocence, they marry and live in his bungalow. Olive runs off with Trent, but he is arrested for bigamy. When Mr. Wharton finds Ann, finally her antics have ceased and she is now happily domesticated.

This lively comedy starring the vivacious Ann Pennington was filmed on locations at St. Paul's School, Garden City, Long Island, New York and produced by the Famous Players Film Company. Tragically it remains on the list of lost silent films.
