- Episode 1: "The Fangs of the Wolf" James Horton dies at his hacienda in Mexico, leaving a will which makes Major Richard Winston and Senor Pancho Lopez the trustees of Horton's vast estate, and they are created guardians of his daughter and only child, Liberty Horton, aged seventeen years, the will commanding that Liberty must not marry before reaching the age of twenty-one without the written approval of both trustees. Liberty spends a year at the Winston home, and then goes to her late father's estate in Mexico. A fiesta is held in honor of Liberty's arrival, with feats of horsemanship. Theresa, a Mexican girl, is in love with Manual Leon. She becomes maid to Liberty. Captain Rutledge is in love with Liberty and she has much affection for him, but Trustee Leon's son, Manuel, becomes Rutledge's rival. A grand ball concludes the fiesta, and here Pancho Lopez secretly plots against his employers by conspiring to abduct Liberty, the prospective money to be used to finance a revolution. The plan succeeds. Pedro escapes from his captivity with the Lopez band and hurries back to the Horton estate, where he tells of the abduction of Liberty and the Texas Rangers are summoned. Manuel tries to dissuade the rangers from setting out on the rescue mission, claiming the quest too hazardous, but Rutledge spurns his advice, and the latter finally concludes to accompany the expedition. The Lopez gang succeed in carrying Liberty to a high mountain fastness. A message is found demanding $10,000 as ransom to release Liberty. Rutledge shouts up the mountainside that if Liberty is harmed all the Lopez gang will be punished by death when caught. Lopez sends words to an insurrecto chief, Alvira, to prepare for an attack on an American town near the border. Pedro, the servant, manages to creep into the Lopez camp, finds Liberty and aids her to escape. Alvira and his insurrectos meanwhile are marching to attack the American town. Captain Rutledge and Manual Leon quarrel, and agree to fight a duel.—Moving Picture World synopsis
- Episode 2: "Riding with Death" While Liberty is attempting to make her escape Pedro is hurling dynamite at Lopez and his men and in so doing blows up a part of the hut. Manuel and Rutledge are fighting on the top of the cliff. Manuel forces his opponent over the edge of the cliff, but Rutledge manages to retain a hold by hanging in midair. This is seen by Liberty and Pedro and they start to the aid of Rutledge, but before they arrive Rutledge has managed to regain his foothold. When they arrive at the camp of the Major Liberty tells him of the attack. The Major thinks that by riding hard they will be able to warn Colonel Dalton. This is heard by one of Lopez's men and he leaves to warn Lopez. Just as the Major and his men are mounting they are attacked by Lopez and forced to seek shelter. Liberty offers to ride to the Colonel's quarters and warn him, and so she and Pedro leave, pursued by three of Lopez's men. Manual has not entered the fight, but is watching from behind a rock. Just as Rutledge is loading his gun Manuel fires at him and the bullet tears the gun from his hand. As he starts to fire, a second time the Major walks up behind him and knocks him down, warning him to stop. The fighting continues. Liberty is closely pursued by the Mexicans. She strings a rope across the trail just at a bend. It is effective, and two Mexicans are knocked from their horses. She reaches the camp.—Moving Picture World synopsis
- Episode 3: "American Blood" Liberty Horton. the American heiress, having escaped from her abductors who are led by Lopez, rides toward the town of Discovery, to warn the Americans there of the plot of the Insurrectos to attack the place. Lopez sends out several rebels who shoot and wound her, but the coming of some American soldiers from the camp frighten them away. She is placed in a hospital tent and when she recovers consciousness tells the American soldiers that the rebel chieftain, Alvira, has 1,000 Insurrectos under his command and intends to attack the town of Discovery at once. A band of Texas rangers give battle to the Lopez band and rout them. The military camp officers then try to send a telegram of warning to the operator at Discovery, but he fails to receive the message. Alvira and his army attack Discovery. While the battle between the rebels and the citizens is raging, the timely arrival of a large detachment of American soldiers results in the routing of the Insurrectos. Liberty, having recovered somewhat, is able to ride with an armed escort, to her late father's hacienda, and here she seeks recreation during her recovery. Major Winston, one of the guardians of Liberty, gambles heavily, and gives notes of his indebtedness of the total of $20,000. Jose Leon, the other guardian of Liberty, has a son, Manuel, who desires to wed Liberty, and so the father and son plot to use the gambling notes against Winston to try to force him to agree to the prospective marriage of Liberty and Manuel. Liberty, whose sweetheart is an American army officer, Captain Rutledge confers with him, and they pledge affection to each other. Jose taunts Major Winston about his betrayal of his duty as guardian in losing money belonging to Liberty, but the latter refuses to comply with Jose's demands.—Moving Picture World synopsis
- Episode 4: "Dead or Alive" Miss Liberty Horton, an American heiress residing on her late father's estate in Mexico, overhears a quarrel between her two guardians. Major Winston, a former U.S. Army officer, and Jose Leon, an old friend of her father's. The two guardians are angrily discussing Jose's demand that his son, Manuel, be allowed to wed Liberty. Jose declares that if the Major does not agree to such a marriage, he, Jose, will make public the fact that the Major has squandered in gambling about $20,000 belonging to Liberty. Liberty decides, that, although she does not care for Manuel, she will marry him to save her American guardian from disgrace. She also decides to be Manuel's wife in name only. While the forced marriage of Liberty and Manuel is taking place, Colonel Dalton. Commanding troops near the border in New Mexico, receives orders from Washington to cross the line and capture the Mexicans who attacked the town of Discovery. Dalton's troopers show joy over the chance to fight and they quickly break camp and begin marching across the border. Captain Rutledge, leader of a troop of Texas Rangers, who is in love with Liberty, sees Liberty being compelled to wed Manuel and he departs in sorrow to lead his rangers to a Junction with the oncoming American soldiers. Lopez, chief of the Mexican bandits in that section of the country, is told by a courier that the Yankee troops are coming, and hoping to gain greater power among the insurrectos, he incites the rebels to attack the American troops. Therese, the discarded sweetheart of Manuel, resolves to aid Liberty in escaping from Manuel's house. Manuel goes to Liberty's room, which he finds locked, and he demands admittance, just as Therese creeps to the window outside to aid Liberty in escaping. Manuel breaks down the door and confronts Liberty, who seizes a knife and defies her unwelcome husband. Col. Dalton and his troops are meanwhile marching into Mexico.—Moving Picture World synopsis
