Bobby Bumps doesn't enjoy practicing his piano, but his Pa is in the room. Bobby decides to place Fido on the keyboard. This pleases Bobby, who sneaks off, and Pa, who thinks his son's playing is getting better in this amusing cartoon from Earl Hurd.
Earl Hurd (1880-1940) was born in Kandas City. By the early 1910s, he was illustrating now-forgotten comic strips like 'Trials of Elder Mouse'. He gave this up in 1915 to go to work for John Randolph Bray, where Bobby Bumps lasted until 1922.
Hurd began the sort of nomadic life of the movie cartoonist. He worked briefly for Paul Terry, then had his own cartoon factory. After a stint back in the newspaper comics, he worked for Ub Iwerks. When Iwerks lost his major contracts, Hurd bounced over to Disney, where he wrote (i.e., storyboarded) Pluto Pup cartoons.
