The Last Soldier.
JoeytheBrit31 August 2009
Hiram Cronk was believed to be the oldest survivor of the war of 1812. Born in 1800, he enlisted with his father and two brothers at the age of 14, and was 105 years old when he died in May 1905. As this film shows, Cronk was buried with full military honours.

The film follows the procession from Grand Central Station to New York City Hall. there's not much of real interest for a present-day viewer. It seems any parade or procession was filmed back in the early days of the 20th century and they all begin to blur into one after a while. For much of the film half of the screen is filled with public bystanders. One youth stares openly at the camera, his head filling much of the screen. The final half-minute shows bearded old civil war veterans filing past Cronk's funeral carriage.
