High school student Phil and his family have just moved to a new town, which means a new school for Phil. In being a shy person, Phil is having troubles feeling like he fits in with his new classmates, he, rather than going to the local hangout after school to get to know them, preferring in its comfort to go home to work on his electronics in solitude. In being a passive observer, Phil notices that he dresses differently than them, and admires the ease they seem to have just interacting with each other. In wanting Phil to make new friends, his father encourages him to be a more active observer, to discover what it is about the popular kids that makes them so, and associated what it is that he likes and admires about them. While Phil can do as his father suggests, it may take an effort on his or their part to make the first step truly to become friends.
