- A live-action documentary film, this independent film was produced by Nibariki (Miyazaki's personal office), with the revenue from Nausicaä. At first, it was supposed to be an animated film which took place in the town of Yanagawa. After the success of Nausicaä, Tokuma wanted to produce another animated movie (of course, they wanted a Nausicaä sequel), and Miyazaki was looking for a good project. Miyazaki visited Yanagawa, and was impressed by the beautiful town with its canals, and came up with an idea for a film about high school boys and girls in Yanagawa, and thought that Takahata, who worked as a producer for Nausicaä, should direct such a film. However, when Takahata visited Yanagawa for research, he came to be more interested in the history of the town, especially how local people fought to preserve the canals which have been a part of the community for a long time, and how they put a great deal of effort to clean up the once polluted canals. As a result, it became a live action documentary, and Miyazaki decided to spend his own money on it. It took three years for Takahata to complete this film.

Only one witness comes forward to implicate Kali - her name is Laxmi Joshi, a school-teacher, the wife of Advocate Satyaprakash. Kali gives them 24 hours to withdraw the complaint. When that does not happen, the people of Dharampura will get to see Draupadi's story being re-enacted again - this time it will be Laxmi who will be publicly disrobed, and amongst the helpless spectators will be her husband.

He got Ram s garment factory blasted, attempts were made on Ram s life till he was forced to leave the city with his family. Soni s men pursued them, made another gruesome attempt on Ram s life and killed his father. Ram swore on his father's dead body that he would not run anymore; he would prepare, return and hit back.

- Sita Sinha watches as her young son, Bihari fights another young, wealthy lad, Amar for spattering dirt on his body using his car. But shortcomings develop between both Amar and Bihari when Amar's businessman dad, Brij Bhushan Saxena instigated by his business partner schemes to create misunderstandings between both over a plot of land. Bihari then blames Amar for all the up-heals and plots to destroy him.
