- Francie Landereaux is one of 29 women on a voyage to California on a barter-bride deal in which any qualified man can buy a wife. Unknown to the sponsors, she is already married to a man who has deserted her and she is on the voyage to find him. The husband is a wanted man and Shard Benton captures him in Panama for the reward. When the ship reaches California, Francine takes a job with Monty Breed, an old enemy of Benton. The husband returns and is killed by Breed. Benton and Breed gamble with Francine at stake.
- Johnny Fraser (Johnny Downs) leaves his mother (Helen MacKellar) in their small home town and sets out for the big city. He obtains a job with a large firm of architects. Steve Carson (Archie Robbins), a fellow employee, is constantly flaunting the money he has won at the race track. Johnny also bets the races, but loses heavily and takes some of the firm's money to cover his losses. Steve also introduces Johnny to Madelon Kirby (Rosalind Keith), a gold-digging night club singer. When the firm's boss McNeil (Holmes Herbert) learns that Johnny has embezzled some money, he fires him and has him jailed. Johnny's mother comes to his aid, but he cannot find work when he is released. Through Steve Carson, Johnny becomes the head of a shady firm, Business Engineers, and is making a lot of money. Madelon returns and she and Johnny are married, but he is unaware that Steve is not only double-crossing him in the business but with Madelon also.

- Captain Grant shows up at Boonesborough in the middle of the night, looking for Daniel, who is off on a trip with Rebecca. In a big hurry, Grant obtains a horse and starts after them. He catches up to Daniel, but is then immediately shot. He give Dan a letter from the President and directs Dan to take it to New Orleans to deliver it. The two men that shot Grant follow Daniel and Becky all the way, desperate to prevent the delivery of the letter.
- When a native chief returns to his village and finds it destroyed and his family abducted, against the advice of Bob and Sheena, he attempts to rescue his wife and son and avenge himself on the perpetrators. Captured by his enemies, he is forced to spy on their behalf or his family will be executed - unless Sheena can free the chief's loved ones.
