When Avtaar and Radha wish to go on a tirathyatra (pilgrimage), they ask Ramesh to book tickets for them, but he tells them that he has no money. When Radha gets sick, their servant, Sewak, enters Sudha's room to get some money for her treatment, as a result Radha does get treatment, but Sudha blames them for stealing her money. Avtaar asks Ramesh and his wife to get out, only to find out that the house is now in Sudha's name. AVtaar, Radha and Sewak move out and live in a shanty hut. Their hopes are with Chander, who does well in his exams, decides to marry Renu, and moves out without financially assisting his parents. Now Avtaar and Radha are elderly and dependent on Sewak, and the question remains will they resign themselves to this existence, if not, what possibly can a crippled older male accomplish, especially at this time in his life?

After his term ends, he is discharged and will soon find out that his wife and father are dead, his second child is missing believed to be dead, a prostitute has taken over the identity of his daughter, and a hoodlum, Shiva, is waiting to kill him.

Years later, Ranimaa's second son meets with an attractive young woman named Renu, and both fall in love. Their alliance is frowned upon as Renu is the daughter of a prostitute, and has never known who her biological father is, though her mother lives with a man named Suraj. Little do they know that the past will be re-visited, changing everyone's lives and outlooks forever.

With Purandare's assistance they manage to escape, but they're shot. A horrified Ramdas watches Purandare shoot his father dead, and this is how he starts hating revolutionaries. Ramdas changes his name to Ronnie, befriends a girl named Julie, and grows up taking up crime as his career. He soon prospers and lets the villagers also prosper with him. Then when the Police Commissioner is shot dead, Ronnie helps the authorities apprehend his killer, a young man named Shekhar. He is arrested, tried in Court, and sentenced to be hanged. At this point Ronnie finds out that the people he assisted in the past are all against him and sympathize with the revolutionaries. Furious, he grabs a gun to kill Shekar's parents--and finds out who they really are and why Purandare shot his dad.
- Remake of Balachander's Tamil hit Varumayin Niram Sivappu, Kamal Haasan reprises his role as Raja, a graduate looking for work in capital, sharing a small home with two other unemployed youth. He falls in love with a struggling actress, whose life is likewise wretched. Fairly unrelenting grim view of urban unemployment, with the usual dose of Balachander moralizing. The Tamil version with Bharati poems was somewhat more interesting. An interesting study of the perception of government.

He promises to stay in touch with Shobha. However, after a year when Anil returns he finds that Vinnie and Rakesh have married, and is heart-broken to find that Shobha had married JK. Dejected but not beaten, he marries another girl by the name of Sona, but is unable to get Shobha out of his mind. Sona resents this, and one day follows him, and finds him in bed with none other than Shobha.
- Sparkling comedy about a meddling friend whose attempt to rekindle the spark in his friend's relationship with his wife of seven years leads to complications to their lives, and to the lives of his secretary and her boyfriend he has not 'scripted' ... Splendid performances by Amol Palekar, Deepti Naval, Parveen Babi and Farooq Shaikh, a perfectly pitched script, witty dialogue and a plethora of aptly placed film references make this a film one can watch over and over and never fail to laugh out loud.
- Shyam and Kamal are two school-going students who are close friends. When Kamal is unable to pay his exam fees, Shyam assists him, and as a result Kamal does well, is able to study further, becomes an IPS Officer, and is subsequently hired as the Superintendent of Police in Delhi, while Shyam re-locates to live in Bombay. Years later, Shyam has taken to crime in a big way and is now known as Rajeshwar. He kills a politician, S.M. Dayal, who had molested and killed, Geeta, his betrothed, but the Police are unable to find evidence to arrest him. They request Kamal to intervene and arrest Rajeshwar, and as a result, Kamal, along with his wife, Shashi, and sister, Sudha, re-locate to Bombay. Kamal finds out that Rajeshwar is none other than Shyam, but does eventually arrest him for abducting and sexually molesting Shama. Shyam believes that the charges against him are false and trusts Kamal fully. But the Court finds Shyam guilty, and sentences him to seven years in jail. Betrayed and upset with Kamal, an embittered and vengeful Shyam is discharged from prison after his sentence, determined to molest Sudha and make Kamal's life a nightmare.

- Wealthy businessman, Srivastav, lives in a palatial house with his wife, Yashoda, and an only child, a son named Shyam, who likes to paint. Shyam is expected to marry Renu, the daughter of a business-friend, Kailashnath. Unknown to both the families, Shyam and Renu have already met, and fallen in love. When things start going wrong with the Srivastav's business dealings, they stand to lose everything, until and unless Shyam marries the only daughter, Menaka Rai, of the most wealthiest man in Bombay. Yashoda and her husband readily agree to this marriage, but Shyam refuses, as a result is asked to leave the house, and his parents will have nothing to do with him. Shyam and Renu begin their life together, but the unexpected happens, and a woman who is in love with Shyam, Meera, is killed and the police arrest Shyam for her death. He is produced in Court and is sentenced to die. But then the unexpected happens again, as Meera is still alive, and as a result Shyam is freed from prison. He goes to meet Renu and renew their love and get married, only to find out that Renu has got married to a Dr. Prakash, and will have nothing to do with him. A devastated Shyam must now decide to carry on with life and marry Meera, or go on a path of self-destruction.
- Ramesh gets employ as an engineer in a factory own and maintain by the wealthy, Goyal Verma. Goyal has a daughter, Nisha who is of marriage-able age and who also is in love with Ramesh. But their marriage is unacceptable by Goyal and in retaliation he fires Ramesh from his job. This does not end here as the next day Goyal is found dead in his bedroom and Ramesh is accuse of killing him; who is also convicted in a court of law and remanded to prison. While in prison he gets to meet his look-alike Gangu - with Gangu entering into the frame-work this opens up a game between Ramesh and the real killers of Mr. Goyal.
- Gopika Sharma lives a middle-classed lifestyle along with her widowed mother in Bangalore. She expresses a desire to sing and is encouraged by her maternal uncle, Dubey, who takes her with him to Bombay along with her maid, Lajjo. Once there, they are molested and Dubey goes missing. They then attempt to find a decent place to live, and after many frustrations make an agreement with a single male, Kishankumar Shukla, who poses as Gopika's husband, and move into an apartment owned by Lala Dhaniram. Eventually both Kishankumar and Gopika fall in love and get married. Shortly after the marriage, Gopika finds out that Kishankumar is already married to Ujjain-based Radha, who is now deceased, has a daughter, Shashi, and decides to leave him. Kishankumar goes to Ujjain to meet Shashi and is informed that she is and his in-laws have passed away in an auto accident. He returns to Bombay, and finds that Gopika is ready to move in back with him provided he accepts her son from a previous relationship which she had not disclosed to him. Will Kishankumar accept her son?
- Wealthy industrialist Amrish Rai and his wife welcome their U.S. returned son, Vikram alias Vicky back to India. They would like him to get married to a beautiful young woman named Nisha, but Vicky is interested in another young woman, whose name is Annie, and is the daughter of an employee of Rai Industries named David. Then the youngsters go on an overnight picnic with several other college friends, miss their transportation, and end up in the clutches of two truck-drivers - from whom they escape and fall in a pit meant to trap large animals. They are rescued by an elderly woman, only to find themselves abducted by a group of female bandits. The leader of this band, feels sorry for the young lovers, and let's them go - and they try to make their way home - only to find that Amrish has appealed in the newspapers that he will reward anyone with information on Vicky with one lakh rupees. This creates a furore in the community, and the young lovers are on the run from several mobs. The youngsters do make it home in one piece. When Amrish finds out about Vicky's love for Annie, he is enraged and dismisses David from work, only to re-hire him back after the workers, together with Vicky, go on an indefinite strike, until Amrish relents and re-hires David. But Amrish makes it quite clear that this does not mean that he will let his only son marry the daughter of a mere employee - under any circumstance. On the other hand David, who is intimidated by the Rai family, instructs his daughter never to see Vicky again. Looks like this is the end of the line for the young heartbroken lovers.
- Kailashnath is a widower, and father of an only son, Ramesh. He feels that his son has come of age, and must get married. He goes to see a number of young ladies for him, but is disappointed with them, as he feels they are too modern, speak English, and listen to foreign music. He feels that Ramesh will be better off marrying a non-English speaking lady, preferably from a small village. But the predicament of Ramesh is that he is already in love with Ramola, a very well qualified, English speaking Doctor, and he knows fully well that she will not be approved by his dad. So Ramesh, Ramola and Lalaji concoct a plot, making Ramola masquerade as a naive, non-English speaking village belle, with hilarious and unpredictable results.
- Inspector Sunil Rana (Shatrughan Sinha) has been assigned the case of triple-homicide of the Sinha family, namely Mr. Sinha (Ashok Kumar); his son Inspector Rohan (Vinod Mehra), and Rohan's wife (Bindiya Goswami). After an investigation, Sunil concludes that the assailant can only be Dr. Singh (Kader Khan), who escapes from India, and re-locates to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, far from the jurisdiction of Bombay Police. Sunil must overcome borders to apprehend Dr. Singh, and thus bring justice to the Sinha family. It is then Sunil comes to know that Dr. Singh is not the only one involved in this homicide, which is far more complicated that he had thought it to be so.

- A scientist creates a diamond that can focus sun-rays to burn through anything. The villain, in a bid to get the diamond, kills the scientist. The scientist's karate-learning sons, Desh and Vijay, are separated from each other and their mother. Vjay grows up with his karate instructor while Desh is reared by a gypsy camp. How they find each other and avenge their father's death forms the rest of the narrative.
- Asha lives a poor lifestyle with her parents in Bombay. When her mom passes away, her dad takes to alcohol in a big way, and also brings home her stepmother, who is also an alcoholic and dislikes Asha. When Asha befriends Guddu, she throws him our of the house. In anger, Asha pushes her down the stairs and kills her. When she grows up, her father sells her to R.K. Chakravarty for a suitcase full of cash. Chakravarty marries her, but she remains frustrated, as he is impotent, incapable of loving her. Then she gets a parrot as a pet. When the parrot attempts to fly away, she clips it's wings. When her car breaks down, she has it serviced at Auto Services, and when motor mechanic, Jaikumar Sharma, returns it to her house, she thinks her friend Guddu has returned, seduces and gets intimate with Jai. She frequently breaks her car down, and asks Jai to repair it, but he refuses to be seduced by her nor gets intimate with her. When she finds out that he has fallen in love with a girl named Robby, she decides to do away with her - and whosoever even attempts to stand in her and Jai's way.

In the meantime Amar's passport and money are stolen. He manages to board a ship bound for Britain, where he is subsequently apprehended, arrested and turned over for prosecution and possible deportation as an illegal immigrant. It looks like Sonia's mom have have her way with her daughter after all.
