- Bridget falls for the tennis coach, Scott, and so does Cate, whom Scott asks out. Cate declines because they work at the same place, but can she resist her urges? Rory finds out a secret while making a school project about Gramps.
- In the series closer, it's the schools ditch day. While Bridget plots to do the ultimate prank, Cate is plotting how to keep her relationship with Principal Gibb under wraps so she won't worry her kids. Kerry is anti-ditch day, and tries to make ditch day a normal day of learning, to what turns out to be a complete bust. When Kerry puts on the prank in her sister's place, she ends up realizing she really has been a goody-two-shoes. Cate also realizes that it's really not that big of a deal that she's dating the principal, and her kids just want what's best for her.
- The summer is over and Kerry has "grown" in Europe and wants to break up with Kyle. Bridget is the student body president and revels in her power. Rory starts high school with trepidation. Gibbs offers Cate a job.
- After Cate watches Freaky Friday, she find herself in Bridget's body, while Bridget is in her body, Grandpa Jim and C.J. have swapped bodies, and Rory has swapped with his hamster.

It's Matt (played, thanks to brilliant casting, by none other than Katey Sagal's old cast-mate Ed O'Neill from Married with Children)!
- C.J. decides to try speed dating. Kerry's winning art project about the objectification of women will be displayed at the mall. Will this be the *one* time she gets the people's attention instead of Bridget?
- C.J. doesn't wan't to share the room with Jim anymore, so Jim agrees to move to the "scary" attic if C.J. manages to spend one night alone there. A scout from Princetown is coming to see Bridget play tennis and Kerry becomes very upset at the very thought of Bridget possibly getting a scholarship to Princeton. But Bridget is about to flunk maths which would mean she won't get to play when the scout arrives...
- Rory is being bullied in school - (un)fortunately Gramps and C.J. offer him advice. The girls are not happy to hear that Cate will become their school nurse since they both have a secret mom won't like.
- Rory won't reveal who beat him up. CJ fails to get him painkillers. The girls get fake IDs; and Bridget gives their number to a cop. They fear Cate answers his call. CJ fears the pharmacy calls. Cate fears Scott calls. Who answers whose call?
- Granpa takes the children and C.J. ice fishing. Meanwhile, Cate goes on a dinner date with principal Gibb. Since the house is empty and it's Friday, Cate invites Gibb to watch Arabian Lawrence with her. The next morning Cate awakes on the sofa with Gibb on top of her... just before grandpa returns home early with the kids.
- The Hennessys' garage has burnt on the Thanksgiving and the insurance company man is investigating the cause. C.J. had a turkey fryer in there, but is it absolutely sure that it started the fire?
- It's Prom Night. Bridget learns that the planned after party has been canceled. She then mentions at home that she's decided to throw the after party at a hotel and asks her mom to book a room, but Cate forbids her to even take part in any after party. Kerry has published a pro-lesbian article in the school paper, gets asked to the prom by a lesbian girl. Kerry thinks their appearance together would make a statement, but does not realize that the girl is attracted to her. Rory gets asked to the prom by a girl with somewhat questionable reputation - a fact with which Cate is not at ease with at all. When C.J. points out that if Cate does not book a room, the kids will find someone else who will, the only solution Cate can come up with is to announce that the after party will take place at their house...
- Bridget has injured her leg in a bathroom accident, but tells everyone that Kerry pushed her down the stairs. Principal Gibbs informs C.J. that he can start working as a substitute teacher. Cate learns that C.J. wrote a recommendation letter in her name and forged her signature. In his defense, C.J. claims that he's doing exactly what Cate wanted: something worthwhile with his life. But when he catches Rory for cheating, will he be able to turn Rory in to Gibbs, who has zero tolerance against cheating?
- Rory has a crush on the new exchange student and wants to go shopping for new clothes. He does no longer want his mother's company, only her credit card. Bridget can't allow Rory's poor choices in clothing because it would reflect poorly on her, so she decides to give Rory a changeover. Meanwhile, C.J. has earned access to the teachers lounge. Unfortunately C.J. gets on the bad side of Mr. Edwards by first calling him "Mr. Ed" and then breaking his coffee cup. The man uses prison inmate style tactics to intimidate C.J. and kick him out of the lounge. Granpa tells C.J. confrontation is the only way out... Granpa tells Cate she has to accept that the kids grow up.
- C.J. asks the girls' math teacher, the Japanese Mrs. Krupp, out - and she accepts. To everyones surprise, their date goes well and they start seeing each other. Then Cheryl turns up, claiming that she missed C.J. and suddenly he is in the most unlikely of situations: having to choose between two women on a Valentine's Day.
- Bridget gets an audition for a car commercial, but gets rejected. This causes Bridget to lose her confidence in herself. Jim goes to reprimand the project leader who, to Cate's shock, turns out to be the love of his life.
- Cate clashes with one of the opposing team's mothers at Kerry's volley bowl team match and gets a warning, meaning that if Kerry's team's fans cause another incident, her team forfeits the playoffs. So Kerry forbids her from attending.
- Bob's competition, Warren Wellman, is in town for an awards show and this time, after multiple defeats, Bob hopes to win by schmoozing the judges.
- Bob insists John Tesh be fired and comes up with the idea of a female co-host for an info-mercial. All is going well as Bob gets actress Bo Derek to co-host, until John Tesh shows back up.
- Wanting to show up Janet, who insists Bob has body issues, Bob agrees to pose naked for a world renowned photographer for a book of naked older men.
- Billy gets jealous when he learns of Suzanne's tryst with Elvis, so he sets out to have the orderly fired. Meanwhile, after learning Billy and Shelley are going to have a baby girl, Suzanne decides to adopt a Ukrainian baby.
- Jamie tells Paul they should renew their wedding vows. Paul is not enthused about it. Paul has tonsillitis but Jamie thinks it is just a sore throat. Lisa is a mentor to a young teen. Mabel says her first word.
- The building superintendent asks Paul to care for his roof garden while he is away. Paul knows nothing about farming but becomes quite avid over the job. A friend's toy from Holland fascinates Mabel; Jamie decides to keep the toy.
- Paul dreams of meeting Albert Einstein and being given a mathematical problem. He is convinced it will solve the Y2K problem for computer programs. One of Jamie's expensive dresses is ruined at a dry cleaners.
- Paul & Jamie's therapist tells them they are healed and no longer need counseling. Jamie does not believe it. Murray is in a dog show contest.
- When Paul & Jamie find out the package delivery guy died unexpectedly, they decide to tell their friends and family they love them. Their sentiment is not welcomed as expected.
- Ira brings over some Viagra, and Jamie tells Paul to take it for fun. When it takes effect, Jamie is locked out of the gym without clothes, wandering around New York with no way to get home.
- Paul falls asleep on the couch, and the next night, Paul & Jamie invent reasons to sleep in separate rooms, each enjoying the differences apart. Ira manages Marvin in wrestling.
- Ira finds a note in a pair of pants he has not worn for 20 years. The note makes plans to meet at a certain place at a certain time that day. Turns out it is his ex-wife. Paul & Jamie steal Burt's car since it is old and in need of repair.
- Paul feels responsible when their neighbor Hal throws out his back, so he hires a gorgeous nurse. Jamie and Paul argue over the choice of nurse. Hal suggests they write down their argument, bury the notes, and then forget the argument.
- Paul & Jamie struggle to read Moby Dick for the Book Club in the next day. Debbie compiled the family tree for the Buchman's and Stemple's. Several generations previous, the families were connected. Are Paul & Jamie cousins?
- Flash forward a number of years. Mabel is a grown film maker, showing a documentary of her parents lives over the last 20 years. Married or not, separated or not, Mabel blames her parents for her own current life.
- Paul & Jamie win a inflatable bouncer. Their pediatrician offers them a hotel stay for a honeymoon. The pediatrician and his annoying girlfriend show up at the hotel. Lisa stays at Paul & Jamie's apartment and gets stuck in the bouncer.
- Paul & Jamie's therapist suggest they do not talk for the rest of the day in order to improve non-verbal communication. Of course, they have more visitors during this time, each wondering why they are not talking.
- At Mabel's checkup, the doctor says it is possible Mabel is allergic to something, possibly to Murray. Paul & Jamie host Thanksgiving dinner and invite a collection of random friends and acquaintances. The charades game does not go well.
- Jamie and Paul make love in the afternoon, and Jamie is energized. Lisa and Ira watch Mabel, and Lisa decides she wants her own baby. She decides to adopt a pet cat. She gets one that is wild and unfriendly.

- Paul & Jamie fly to Los Angeles to see an agent interested in representing Paul. Jamie enjoys the pampering and luxury without caring for a baby. She does not want to go home and wonders why she had a baby.
- Ira's store is not doing well financially. He decides to raffle a car to generate business. But, friends and family play ringers in the contest to be the car winner. Paul loses his vision temporarily due to a bright camera flash.
- Tom learns he's not the only one wrestling with the must-status of countless traditions. Everyone pretends to like Sandy's ham balls family recipe, but even Susan would eat anything at home to get rid of the taste. As always it's worse for Chris- Mary isn't content to drag him to the annual Lithuanian folk-dance, because of her rivalry with Bonnie McClintock she's determined to erase the memory of his one step wrong last year by winning flat out. Tom worries he has nothing to talk about with dad Bill, so he's eager to fill in for Chris at Bill's office's softball team; it's a big hit- on Bill's ankle! So Tom stays home with Bill while everyone else sees Lewis have a ball as MC while Mary drives Chris crazy, but is satisfied when Bonnie slips over a dried fish. Back home Tom discovers Bill only pretended to be badly hurt so he could avoid the Lithuanian drag...
- Susan is sick and tired of hearing her sister Mary's husband Chris is so perfect, in fact slavishly house-trained, while her unemployed Tom is very inventive in finding ways and reasons to get out of any chores. So Tom decides to get the inconvenient 'good example' Chris to become less helpful and spend some time drinking. It works like a charm, but to Tom's horror Mary finds Chris being in the dog house makes him sexy, so he stops helping out and the Kelly parents expect him to take over...
- When Tom finally finds an old male friend in Kansas, and they talk sports and other guy stuff in a bar all night instead of the Kelly's stuff such as food, Susan gets enough of a taste of his conversational boredom to realize he needs a friend, but in order for her not be left out they figure the only solution is to match up Bob with one of her female friends so they can go out as two couples. Mary and Chris host a fancy dress-up 'Oscar night' by the TV, but Sandy is worried when Lewis finds money in his tuxedo which he thinks someone gave him as a present at Marys wedding. On the Oscar evening Susan tries to match Bob with her school friend Julie as subtly as a hurricane, and Mary introduces Bob to Justine, a divorce-gloomy super-nag. Lewis discovers on the wedding pictures it was the priest who didn't get paid. When the couples double-date, Bob and Justine have a surprising announcement...
- When Lewis picks up Toms mail and opens some, it's obvious even to him Tom still has his New York apartment, but agrees not to tell; however when Lewis takes off to it just before Thanksgiving, the family soon finds out and get him back. Tom invites him over for a 'vacation' on his couch, but gets anxiety attacks after Susans wining about him needing psychological backup and not wanting to live in Kansas made him cancel his lease. Lewis tries to cheer him up by visiting 'awesome' Kansas spots such as the Worlds Largest Barn, but it only makes Lewis happy as he finally gets to cross the county border. However the Kellys changing the traditional Thanksgiving to a celebration of New York's five boroughs does help Tom.
- Tom finds an obnoxious customer in the deli is a fellow New Yorker married into Kansas, Bob Lydecker, and even Susan is actually delighted to have another city couple to double date with - till she meets them and thus finds out Bobs local wife is actually Trish Arnold, who was in high-school with her, and tore up Mary's school presidential campaign posters, leading to a fight for which Susan was suspended, her most heroic youth-deed. Still her attempt to lay a guilt-trip on him doesn't stop Tom from accepting Bobs invitation to go to his company's VIP-box in the sports stadium, but when the incident between their wives, about which Mary confesses something at home, gets mentioned...
- Kay dresses up as a man to prove a point. She fools everyone into thinking that she is one, so Murphy uses her to get rid of an IRS tax accountant who keeps hitting on Murphy, only to realize that she needs his insider information.
- Airport security finds a bag of medicinal marijuana on Jim. As a good friend, he refuses to tell them or anyone else that it's actually for Murphy and gets into serious trouble.
- Murphy dates a younger man, even though even her circle of friends finds it inappropriate.
- Murphy needs another surgery. When she goes to sleep on the operating table, she awakens in Heaven, where she's greeted by God.
- Murphy interviews God. Meanwhile, the FYI crew assumes that Murphy is leaving the FYI for good, so they plan what to do next with their careers. The show ends with an epilogue that wraps most things up.

When Henry learns what she did, he shows her why he didn't want her to do it but they choose not to tell Val.
- Holly volunteers to work in Val's office during spring break from school. The girls clash over the tactics Val should use to get a promotion over a competitive colleague, Lauren.
- Since Val's busy work schedule prevents her from being with Holly and Jeff, Val suggests that the two of them attend a concert, along with Jeff's gorgeous ex-girlfriend Dana.
