Tonia gets away and tells one of her servants, Felipe, to delay Kane, and this he does by means of offering him a drink, then another one. Tonia fills out the blank entry and rides to the fort, where Farnsworth tells her they must beat Kane to the recorder's. Kane, half drunk, suddenly realizes the trick being played upon him, and after a struggle with Felipe, he gets away, mounts and rides to the recorder's. He gets there just a little ahead of Farnsworth and Tonia, but his drunken condition impedes him and Farnsworth beats him in a fight whilst Tonia gets her document of possession filed. They proceed home and find that Tierney and his associates have terrorized the men and women and have put them to indignities. Farnsworth has ordered troopers to meet him at the hacienda and the ruffians, unable to produce any authority, are soon disposed of. The Senora, humbled by the experiences she has gone through, is glad to install Farnsworth as their protector, by granting him the hand of Tonia.
- Mickey and his pal attempt to capture a desperado, for whom a $1,000 reward is offered. They raise the necessary $10 to purchase an antique flivver and start on the trail. The crook steals a bag containing the pet dog of a child movie star, which is transposed by mistake with another bag containing $5,000 in bills. The diminutive comedy queen goes to a low dive to meet the crook and ransom her dog. Mickey and his pal follow, seeking to recover the $5,000 and save the pup. A general fight follows, with the boys outwitting the crooks and rescuing girl, dog and money.

They barricade the doors, but the lynching party breaks them down and drag the two men away to string them up. But the girl has seen them and raced for the sheriff, who arrives just in time to prevent the lynching. The land grabber experiences a change of heart. He appoints Broncho foreman and the men have won their point and return to work satisfied, while Broncho falls in love with the girl who saved them.

There he meets Peggy O'Day, and has a strenuous time attempting to control the tough gang which infests the vicinity. Finally he quits Hart's employ, and the latter, realizing the wrong he has done, gives Peggy a half interest in the mine, and she and Farnum end the film in each other's embrace.
