- Chandrakumar, son of a rich man in Travancore is kidnapped by the villain Bhoothanathan to Ceylon. The efforts of his parents to find him do not succeed and Chandrakumar is brought up as a laborer in an estate. The estate owner, who is British, takes a liking to him and in time, Chandrakumar rises to the post of Superintendent. At this time Jayachandran, a distant relative of Chandrakumar happens to come to Ceylon. Incidentally, he is robbed of all his belongings by Bhoothanathan. Stranded, he gets acquainted with Chandrakumar and they become close friends. They come to Travancore where Chandrakumar's sister falls in love with Jayachandran. Meanwhile Bhoothanathan attempts to kidnap her and the duo's timely intervention saves her. A scar on the back reveals Chandrakumar's identity which eventually leads to the happy reunion of the family.
- This film features Marthanda Varma (Jaidev), the legendary founder and King of the Travancore State (now Kerala) from 1706-58. It tells the story of love between Anantha Padmanabham (Menon) and Parukutty (Padmini), the political conspiracy of Padmanabha Thampi (Naik) and the heads of the eight Nair Houses against Marthanda Varma. It opens with newsreel coverage of the Aarattu procession of the Travancore Maharaja Chithira Thirunal, including elephants, cavalry and the Nair Brigade before embarking on the story of the King's ancestors. Scenes from the young Marthanda Varma's youth are inter-cut with well-known episodes from the novel.
- Described as the first Malayalam sound film. The story features the struggles of two orphaned children, Balan and his younger sister, oppressed and exploited by an evil stepmother until they are rescued by a kindly lawyer. The evil stepmother takes over the property of her spineless husband.
- Based on the Hindu mythological story of Prahlada and his devotion to the god Maha Vishnu.
- Chandrika, the only daughter of the rich industrialist Janardanan Pillai falls in love with Gopi, the son of the maid servant. Gopi is aware of his social status and keeps away from Chandrika. But Chandrika does not leave him.
- Sthree (Woman) is a 1950 Malayalam film written by Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair and directed by R. Velappan Nair. Music of the film was composed by B. A. Chidambaranath. It was produced by K. Parameswaran Pillai under the banner of Radhakrishna films, Alappuzha.

No one knows the true identity of the real father of the child, until the childs real father, also an upper caste Hindu acknowledges paternity. As the story unfolds, the real father becomes agitated by guilt and anguish and then finally questions his previous actions. The film ends with the Masters own resolutions and true acceptance of his own child and self.
- Appu (Prem Nazir) lost his vision in an accident. After his father dies, his younger sister is the only hope and sight of blind Appu.
