De slimste mens (translation: "the smartest human/person) is a trivia game show, in which famous Dutch people need to answer trivia questions correctly, with three people competing each episode. For every question they answer correctly, they gain seconds that tick away during the time the questions are asked. There are several different rounds, for example, a puzzle round and a round with pictures about a certain topic. The two people with the least amount of seconds go into the final round, in which each question answered correctly reduces the amount of seconds of the opponent. The finalist that has no seconds left loses and can not return to the next episode. In the final week the best players compete against each other and "the smartest person" wins.

A gameshow in which one person in a full audience from 10 towns in the netherlands has the chance to win milions. After a series of trivial questions, the smartest person in the audience gets to choose a suitcase worth anywhere from 1 cent to 5 million euro's. The amount of money in the remaining 25 suitcases is revealed one by one, while the bank is willing to pay a certain sum for the contestants suitcase. This bid changes when high or low values in the other suitcases are revealed and the contestant needs to choose whether to take the money or to hope for a higher bid.
