Wayne Allen, a young westerner, inherits some apparently worthless land. A complicated system of mines is discovered on the land, which shelters a treasure hidden by an extinct band of Indians. The story then develops into a struggle over this treasure between the hero, his girl's villainous uncle, and a band of outlaws, headed by "The White Spider."

Hoot appears on a ranch as a tenderfoot whose father wants to make a man of him. He falls in love with the rancher's daughter, but when all the cowboys rough him up without any retaliation on his part, the girls passes him up. She is just about to marry the foreman of the ranch, when Hoot shows him up as the head of a band of cattle rustlers, and discloses that he is not a tenderfoot but a Texas Ranger. Then the girl wants him back but Hoot gives her the laugh.

A New York girl inherits a ranch and goes there to live, but discovers the foreman is a cattle rustler. As he is about to make away with her she is rescued by the one cowboy who stuck to the ranch, and they soon discover a mutual attraction in each other.

A mysterious character lives in the desert and is reputed to have hidden wealth. A dance hall girl and a gambler frame a plot to rob him. They follow him to the desert where the girl pretends to be dying and is taken in by Tom. He falls in love with her and she with him, and eventually tells him of her plot. After a proof of her love, Tom forgives her and they are happy.

Percy and Ferdy Hallroom are up against it, and decide to try their luck as book agents when confronted on all sides by policemen who persistently point to "work or jail" signs. They meet with poor success, and adopt many clever ruses to get into a promising looking office, but all to no avail, and finally beg a "cop" to arrest them. When taken to the jail, they are again confronted with a sign, "no vacancies."
