And grandfather Gandhi Jothsyan has inspired in Appu a bright sense of goodness. In contrast, his father Mohandas was a man of low morals and his mother, Anitha, indulges in lies as part of life. And now, Appu has to choose between the right and the wrong. To commit forgery or not?

The couple struggle to live within the bounds of their own moral code while the earnings of prostitution seem to be flaunted around them. Hamid gets more and more angry and seemingly unable to reconcile his morality with the immorality of the world and at one point beats his wife and then rapes her making her into a 'whore' of his fantasy. The story here bears resemblance to the later 'Ek Chadar Maili Si' by the same director and seems to explore the complex world of women and sexuality as viewed by Indian men: mother, goddess, whore. This film also explores the ethos of prostitution in its reality and as a metaphor for the outside world.

As Kabir grows young, he tries to show the people about good and bad in each religion and asks them to correct their deeds. Instead of accepting his teachings they try to beat him and send him out of the village. Even then he won't stop his style. Then both Hindus and Muslims complain about him to Nawab Sikander Lodi. The king tries to punish him in many ways but in vain. At last all recognizes his Divinity..

Geeta (Vijayashanti) meets the kid in a shopping place and mistakes him to be Madhu's son and fights with them when the kid accidentally breaks her just bought gift and later realises her mistake and comes to apologise to Madhu's house. She befriends the kid and gradually falls for Madhu. Later she comes to know that the kid is none other than her sister's (Rajyalakshmi) son and she was murdered. Madhu is accused of murder and kidnap, and is arrested by Inspector (Prabhakar). But they realise that he is not the actual killer and is released. However Venu and his assistant keep trying to kill the kid and they are almost successful when Madhu is out drunk one night but saves him in the last minute. This changes him and he gives up drinking. The rest of the story is how the villains are slain and Madhu and Geetha marry and adopt the kid.

- The film deals with the social stigma associated with a handicapped girl in a rural milieu. Murali is a potter by profession. He has a sister, who is born dumb. Murali has to struggle a lot as the handicraft industry is a dying industry and a good amount of money is taken away by his father (Manivannan), who is a drunkard and a gambler. But, he tries to hide his sorrows by having fun with his sister and servant (Vadivelu), who is also his trusted friend. He is in love with his neighbour (Meena), a weaver. He wants to get his sister married to a noble man. But many reject her as she is dumb. Finally, one man agrees to marry his sister but on condition that Murali must offer dowry. Murali then sells many things dearer to him to get money for the dowry. But, that money is taken away by his father and the marriage falls through. Yet Vadivelu offers to marry his sister without asking dowry and Murali goes home along with Vadivelu to convey this happy news to his sister. But it was too late as the sister commits suicide. Murali as a penance decides to marry a handicapped girl.
- Parthiban who takes care of orphaned children in a van leads his livelihood by stealing money. Sangeetha falls in love with him after seeing his cleverness in taking money when he was pretended to portray a pick-pocket in an stage play. Sangeetha ties the sacred thread herself starts leading her life as Parthiban's wife. Parthiban feels reluctant to accept her as his wife but later relents. Both have one thing in common with the evil minister (Chandrasekhar). Sangeetha had escaped from the forced marriage to his dimwitted brother (Prakash Raj) who does it to every women. When Parthiban pretends to help Chandrasekhar in his elections, he changed his money to the other political party and thereby making him lose votes and support. Chandrasekhar who felt cheated joined hands with the opponent political party and kills Parthiban's innocent wife (Urvashi). In the end, Chandrasekhar searching for Parthiban and Sangeetha, Parthiban kills Chandrasekhar and escapes with his family in train with world assuming that he is no more.
- The film opens with a widowed woman giving birth to a baby boy. The landlord does not approve of this and has the baby disposed of. A drunkard finds the baby and keeps him for a couple of years until he sells the boy to a labour camp, in exchange for money. 20 years later, that boy Pursha (Chiranjeevi) and his friend Simham (Nagendra Babu) escape from the labour camp, to see Pursha's mother. But when Pursha goes to the landlord's house, the landlord says that Pursha's mother left a long time and for Pursha to get the details, the landlord must be bribed with Rs. 10,000 /-. Pursha and Simham sneak into somebody's house and steal the necessary Rs. 10,000. At the moment, they are caught by JK (Rao Gopal Rao). He tells them that it is alright for them to take the money for their use. By the time Pursha and Simham get to the landlord, the landlord sold the information of Pursha's mother to JK for Rs. 50,000. Pursha, angered, goes to JK for an explanation. JK wants to use Pursha to stop his rival, who sells drugs. Pursha reluctantly refuses at first but later is convinced. While Pursha, Simham, and Inspector Vijay (Rajendra Prasad) fight some bad guys, Pursha gets injured and jumps into a river. He is saved by a school teacher Sumatri ( Suhasini) who is an orphan. Sumatri is the sister of Vijay. Pursha comes up with a plan to raid important documents to imprison Shailaja's ( Radha) father, who is JK's rival but in the process, Vijay is killed. How Pursha gets his revenge and meets his mother forms the rest of the story.

Towards the end, the movie takes an unexpected twist. Siva and Shruti are forced to take a stand over their future. What they will do forms the story.
- Kulasekaran (R. Parthiepan) is a liquor shop owner and he likes to spend the time in college. Kulasekaran is also a modern Don Juan : a seducer of women. His father Kabali (Vinu Chakravarthy) is a drunkard and he was involved in smuggling illegal liquor, while his mother (Manorama) is a soft-spoken person. During a wedding function, Kulasekaran falls under the spell of the shy young woman Sangita (Sangita Madhavan Nair). He talks to Sangita and he tries to seduce her. Sangita really likes his funny way of talking, she eventually falls in love with him and they even talk about their marriage. When Kulasekaran tries to kiss her, she pushes him away. Disappointed by his behaviour, she runs away from the wedding hall. Later, Kulasekaran falls in love with Archana (Roja). Archana is an arrogant college student and she is the daughter of a district collector (Vijayakumar). Kulasekaran tries to seduce her but without success. One day, she finally accepts his love, unfortunately, the happiness was short-lived, she says that it was just a joke. The whole pattern repeats itself many times, Kulasekaran quickly sinks into alcoholism and depression. Archana openly states that she wants to see Kulasekaran going mad. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.
