- YANG Shi-Nan (Lily LEE) is a 14-year-old boy who undergoes a metamorphosis without realising what is going on. It begins on a normal school day when he gets stomach cramps. After rushing to the toilet he notices that his urine is turning bloody red. Taken to a doctor he is diagnosed with "Disorders of Sex Development," or intersex. Without consulting him, Shi-Nan's parents decide to accept "sex reassignment surgery", turning Shi-Nan into a female and changing her name to Shi-Lan. The family moves to a new city to start a new life and it all seems to be going well as Shi-Lan blends in and even makes friends. It seems like the butterfly is about to break out of its chrysalis but can Shi-Lan truly embrace her transformation?
- Somewhere on the coast of Taiwan is Hotel Iris, a mouldering seaside establishment run by a cold and thrifty Japanese woman (Nahana) and her lonely half-Taiwanese daughter Mari (Lucia). One night, Mari hears the cries of a woman from the upper floors. Heading up to investigate, she witnesses a distraught woman in a red camisole dress escape an impeccably dressed but violent man (NAGASE Masatoshi) whose cold voice is entrancing. Mari's initial shock turns into a strange fascination which drives her to follow the man to discover more about him. He is a translator who lives on an isolated island one can only reach by boat and rumours swirl around him and recent murders. The closer she gets to the man, the more a hidden layer of Mari's personality awakens as she allows herself to be engulfed by his strange passions.
- Ngawang (Damtin Tserang) is a young nomad who is the son of a talented musician. He is cocksure in his belief that he himself will become a folk singer popular among all Tibetan households. After he gets his comeuppance at a talent contest, he meets a girl who looks like the image of "Loyiter", the Goddess of art or the Goddess of Wonder, the image of whom is painted on his precious amulet. This girl tells Ngawang that his dream of greatness can come true if he records an album. Thus begins a musical odyssey across the landscape of Tibet that is packed full of surprising twists and encounters with a variety of people, be they fearsome bandits with heavy metal flair lurking in the wilderness to shoe gaze rock acts performing on the stage in the big city, all of whom provide musical inspiration as he learns the ins and outs of the modern music biz whilst holding on to traditional culture passed down to him.

Immature and frustrated, he lashes out with acts of destruction while locking himself in his shell. His turmoil is shared by his father, a taciturn and domineering man who hides his feelings, and sister Juri, who will bring a new life into the world in difficult circumstances. However, each person thinks only about themselves and the family falls apart as they struggle with the pain, loneliness, and meaning of living alone but it is through recognising the suffering of the mother and her overwhelming love for her family that a small change occurs in the heart of her husband which unlocks the rebirth of their family.

- In-young (IM Yeong-ju) and Jeong-eun (JOO Ga-young) are two besties who are going camping for their last winter trip together just before their senior year in college. In anticipation of the trip, In-young has dug out the camcorder she used as a child to keep a record of her life, and she uses it on the trip to shoot the things that she likes such as the landscape and, maybe unconsciously, Jeong-eun whose appearance on the viewfinder is near constant. The axis of the film is her questioning by a psychiatrist and a detective but it won't be easy since she is suffering from multiple personality disorder and her personalities each emerge at random to recollect what happened from their respective perspectives.
- On the one year anniversary of his wedding, Nijat returns home without telling his wife in advance. He discovers that every time he left home, his wife would take his beloved dog to her uncle Kerim's house without telling him. This is just the first of a number of secrets to be revealed in this dry comedy that is reminiscent of the works of Aki KAURISMAKI with its parched atmosphere, unhurried manner, stilted acting and light nod to absurdism.
