A memorial service at Truro's First United Church included a province-wide moment of silence as the ceremony began. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also spoke, honouring the victims of the tragedy and telling family and friends: "You are not alone." On April 18, 2020, a gunman dressed as an RCMP officer driving a replica cruiser assaulted his common-law spouse in Portapique - a small rural community outside of Halifax - and embarked on a 13-hour shooting and arson spree. The events of those two days would give Nova Scotia a distinction no one wanted: Canada's deadliest rampage killing. In total, 22 people were killed at 16 separate crime scenes as the gunman drove through backroads and rural communities.
- K-9 Corrections provides an intimate look into the lives of five Canadian women inmates and their relationships with the dogs they care for behind prison walls. Through innovative rehabilitation programs such as Freedom Kennels and Pawsitive Directions, inmates from all backgrounds are given the opportunity to transform shelter dogs into adoptable loving pets or simply care for animals boarding at the prison kennels. The unconditional love and companionship of the dogs allows the women to learn compassion, gain self-esteem, and develop a sense of accomplishment on their often rocky path to rehabilitation. Set in the only two Canadian women's prisons with canine programs - the Nova Institution For Women in Nova Scotia and the Burnaby Correctional Centre for Women in British Columbia, this documentary captures the unique caring relationship that develops between inmates and the dogs they come to love.
