During the Korean War, an American unit of combat engineers must work with Greek troops in order to perform a reconnaissance mission behind Communist lines.

Shows James' joining of the Quantrill's raiders, a guerrilla force which fought against union sympathizers during the Civil War. James takes allegiance to the Black Flag, the raiders' banner. After the war he receives kind treatment from a judge concerning his acts of crime and later meets and falls in love with Zee, with whom he wishes to live a peaceful life.

The American President ordered Captains Lewis & Clark to command a force up the Missouri, to map out these lands, and to promise the native inhabitants the protection of The United States who would bring them freedom, peace, friendship, and wealth. 200 years later, a group of enthusiastic patriots, retired soldiers, and proud descendants of the original unit are re-enacting each day of that four year voyage, bringing them face to face with descendants of the natives promised so much.
