A troubled love story brews in a town where a conscientious objector comes to stay.

1942, Yugoslavia has capitulated to the Axis forces. Amidst the conflict, a group of villagers are hiding in the woods after having escaped a massacre and are on the run from the Ustashe (a Croatian fascist organization). It is clear that they will die if they do not get help. Savka, a 16 year-old girl, volunteers to go find help. She must find Tito's Partisans; the only hope this country has left. While searching for the Resistance, she realizes that she has overestimated her survival skills and must exercise logic, patience, and combat on her journey.

For some people it is the later years that release the passion and confidence for self-expression in the arts. One of them, Cecil Richards, close to his 70th year, spends his time working alone at his Lakefield, Ontario retreat.
