- At 4616 Melrose Place, another generation of young adults and best friends have settled in to get by any way they can. Lauren Yung is a part-time med student and intern at Wilshire Hospital who struggles to stay in med school, until she sees a way out when a wealthy man offers her $5,000 for a night with him. Auggie Kirkpatrick is a fellow surfer, who works as a sous chef at a trendy restaurant, named Coal, which is the gang's hang-out place. Ella Simms, an amorous and aggressive bisexual Hollywood publicist, is determined to find her "Mr. Right" or her "Miss Right" and will do anything to get what she wants. David Breck is the resident bad boy and the illegitimate son of Dr. Michael Mancini who struggles to get out from under the thumb of his amoral father. Sydney Andrews is the current building landlord seeking her own agenda with David, whom she is involved in protecting some terrible secret. Emma also has a grudge against Sydney who uses blackmail and intimidation to get what she wants. Riley Richmond is a good-natured 1st grade school teacher, currently in a five-year relationship with Jonah Miller. Jonah is an aspiring filmmaker who struggles with his career and a commitment to Riley. Violet Foster is the newest resident and despite her innocent act, she seems to be hiding something. But suddenly, there is a murder when a body is found floating in the apartment swimming pool, and everyone becomes a suspect due to their mysterious pasts. But as on a series such as Melrose Place... no one is innocent, and everyone has something to hide.
- Ella learns from her ruthless new boss, Caleb, that her job could be in trouble due to a recent merger with the company unless she brings in a huge client. Ella then forces David to take her to a Brentwood party. There she hopes to land a big actor client, Jasper. David has plans of his own - to heist a million-dollar watch from the party and exchange it for cash with his partner in crime, Amir. Meanwhile, Lauren, still in desperate need of tuition money, agrees to go out on another date in exchange for money, but inadvertently winds up at the same party as David and Ella. Detective Rodriguez questions Auggie, who flashes back to when he first met Sydney three years ago during an AA meeting. Also, Riley and Jonah view surveillance video of Violet acting oddly and begin to think she's hiding something involving her and Sydney, while Violet asks Auggie to give her a job at the Coal restaurant.
- As a result of Jane's tip-off, the police bring Ella in for questioning about Sydney's murder. Naturally, Ella downplays the tensions she had after meeting Sydney and of her fallout. Meanwhile, Lauren is torn between going on a shopping date with Riley for her wedding and impressing her new boss Wendi who just set her up on a "date." A stunned Jonah is accused of stealing a diamond necklace from a mansion he videotaped for a Realtor, but he later becomes even more upset after Ella mentions seeing a similar necklace in David's apartment who continues to set his sights on stealing more items from Beverly Hills houses to pawn for cash. Elsewhere, a jealous Violet maliciously sabotages the job of another female Coal bartender so she can get closer to Auggie, as well as further advance up the chain of command.
- Jonah becomes angry when he discovers that Riley hasn't told her family that she and Jonah are engaged. Upset over their fight, Riley turns to Auggie for comfort, leaving Jonah in the cold and more jealous then ever. Meanwhile, the mean-spirited Caleb reassigns Ella after a film director bails on a job that she's covering. She recruits Jonah to fill in on a Boomkat music video at the last minute. However, the egotistical lead singer, Kat, might be more than Jonah can handle, putting Ella's job on the line. David finally accuses Michael of murdering Sydney. Lauren applies to be on Michael's team at the hospital as she continues her secret moonlighting as a call girl through Toby's contacts. Also, Violet continues to make her moves on Auggie to gain his affection both at work at Coal, and at Melrose.
- Jane Andrew Mancini, Sydney's older estranged sister, arrives in Los Angeles and announces that she inherited the building from Sydney. Being just as evil and devious as everyone else, Jane threatens Ella with blackmail unless Ella allows her to dress one of her clients for a movie premiere in a Jane Mancini original design. Meanwhile, Detective Rodriguez starts to ask questions about Violet's connection to Sydney. Violet escapes out of the bathroom window still unwilling to tell anyone about her belief that Sydney was her biological mother. David asks Auggie to give him a temp job at Coal, but David's typical behavior makes him lose his job and embarrasses Auggie to his cynical boss, Marcello. Riley and Jonah crash the movie premier hoping Jonah will meet more influential people for his career, while Riley learns about Violet's arrest after Jane betrays her to the police, and bails her out of jail over Jonah's protests. Elsewhere, Lauren and a client meet up at a hotel bar after she's stood up by Toby. On leaving the hotel after being beaten up and stiffed by the brutal john, Lauren is stopped by Wendi, a local Hollywood madame who pimps out her employees in a "not so legal" deal with the hotel, and she threatens Lauren to stay away from the hotel and her business. But Lauren offers a compromise of her services to Wendi.
- Anton V, a famous fashion designer, meets Riley and decides she must be the face of his new Denim Jeans campaign despite Ella's chagrin. Meanwhile, Jonah is excited about the job offer where he gets to direct another music video, as he's run into financial issues. But Riley goes behind his back and turns down the gig. At Coal, David meets with Amir to discuss another posh art piece, and Amir sets David up to meet a well-connected cousin of his on a luxurious yacht. Wendi sends Lauren on another job where "anything goes" for another wealthy client. But Lauren panics when she begins to board the same yacht David is already on. Also, Violet feigns an illness to orchestrate a meeting with Michael at the hospital as part of her wickedly twisted plan to exact revenge for the way he treated Sydney.
- Having agreed to model for the Anton V designer jeans, Riley goes to a Malibu Beach photo shoot session with Ella in tow, and they meet the photographer, who happens to be former Melrose Place resident, Jo Reynolds. Unfortunately, Jo and Riley take an instant dislike to each other because Riley correctly sees Jo as too demanding, abrasive, and mean-spirited like literally everyone else in L.A., while Jo correctly sees Riley as inexperienced and naive to the modeling profession. Jo then tries to provoke a fight with Riley by asking her to pose topless in the shoot to make her get in touch with her emotions. Meanwhile, Jonah meets with a producer's development executive, named Kendra, who invites him to have drinks later that night to discuss his film. The wicked vixen Violet makes another play for Auggie's attention at Coal. Also, Lauren finds out about David's criminal secret of sealing artwork to pawn for cash, while she continues to hide her own criminal secret of being a high-class call girl.
- Ella and Caleb are stunned when agency owner, the malevolent and devil-incarnated Amanda Woodward, walks into WPK Publicity and immediately fires most of the staff, including Caleb. The brutal and wicked Amanda makes it clear to Ella that the Anton V. launch party with Riley better go off without a hitch or Ella can vacate her office too. When Ella is forced by Amanda to tell Riley to spin a fabricated story about her childhood to the press for publicity reasons, Jonah advices Riley to defy them and tell the truth about her upbringing, but they both soon regret it. Meanwhile, Auggie finally succumbs to Violet's flirtatious ways while he desperately tries to clear himself of the Sydney murder charges. Also, David asks Lauren out on a date, but she turns him down fearing that he may find out her secret profession. At the same time, David learns about Auggie's arrest and thinks someone tried to frame him for Sydney's murder which leads David to Michael's current wife, Vanessa, who may know more than what she's telling.
- Riley helps Jonah film a wedding as his latest video assignment, but the two get into a big fight in the middle of the ceremony over planning their own wedding. Putting her relationship with Jonah first, Riley breaks off her friendship with Auggie, who doesn't take the news very well. Meanwhile, Ella discovers Lauren's expensive new clothing and lingerie plus a large envelope of cash. Ella finally confronts her roommate about the late nights she's been working, and naturally Lauren has to think of a new lie to tell. Also, David fears he may be responsible for Sydney's death since he still cannot remember anything about that night.
- When the Sydney murder weapon, buried by David, is found at a construction site, Detective Rodriguez examines the blood on it and finds out that it is Auggie's blood. Rodriguez and the police search Auggie's apartment only to find him gone in the aftermath of him getting fired from Coal. Riley is conflicted about whether to help the police, but Jonah pushes her to make a call as she knows where Auggie is staying. Meanwhile, a work incident causes Jonah to pretend he's engaged to Ella who really gets into the role playing. David arranges a secret play date with his little half-brother Noah. But after the little boy hurts himself, Lauren must come to David's rescue and risk the wrath of Dr. Michael Mancini.
- Amanda and Michael have an awkward and uncomfortable reunion. She sets her sights on David as part of a mysterious plan to find something the late Sydney had. David and Lauren's growing romance continues, until Michael gets between them by attempting to sabotage Lauren's medical career when he suspects that David is investigating him. David seeks a way to get Michael arrested for Sydney's murder. Meanwhile, Violet receives an unwelcome visitor from her past: her evil stepbrother Levi, who wants to bring her back to her hometown in Oregon, and Riley inadvertently gets in harms way of the drug-addicted fiend who tries to extort money from Violet. Also, Ella uses her charms to give Jonah a job at WPK as a computer tech where she asks him to spy on Amanda's e-mails in an attempt to get the best on her since Amanda has all her employees secretly investigated in order to discourage them from forming secret alliances against her. But things come to a head when the wicked Amanda moves into Syndey's old apartment at Melrose while her Bel Air mansion is being built and everyone at Melrose takes an instant dislike and hatred of Amanda after they meet her for the first time because of her cynical and devil-may-care attitude.
- When their wedding plans become too much of a hassle, Jonah and Riley decide to drive to Las Vegas to elope. But it doesn't quite go as planned because Ella tells Jonah that she has arranged a pitch meeting for him with an important producer who is interested in buying his film that very day. Meanwhile, Lauren calls David after she gets in trouble with one of her male clients who slips her a roofie. Elsewhere, the imprisoned Michael gives David information about Sydney' killer which leads David to suspect Michael's wife, Vanessa, of orchestrating the whole thing. Auggie confesses his true feelings for Riley, when she has a falling out with Jonah. Also, Amanda bonds with Violet over Sydney. But naturally, the evil Amanda has an ulterior motive in getting to know Violet in order to find a stolen painting that the late Sydney has been hiding from her. In a climatic confrontation, Auggie falls off the wagon and starts drinking again, and Violet has a confrontation with Sydney's killer.
- Amanda puts Ella in charge of a lavish party at her new Bel Air house to celebrate the arrival of her billionaire boyfriend Ben Brinkley, whom buys Amanda's affection with expensive gifts. However, after Amanda sees Ben hitting on Ella, she lashes out at Ella. Meanwhile, Riley asks Jonah if they can start over, but it leads to a guilt-ridden Jonah confessing that he seduced Ella the night before. While Amanda has her henchmen continuing to search the Melrose apartment complex for her smuggled painting, Violet sees that Augie has fallen off the wagon over being rejected by Riley at the party in which she persuades him to leave Melrose with her to start over. Elsewhere, Lauren struggles to recover from her near-fatal overdose and continues to zealously keep her secret profession under wraps, while David, under false pretenses, tracks down the john who drugged Lauren.
- The sexy and catty Drew Pragin arrives in Los Angeles and moves into Auggie's old apartment and immediately clashes with Lauren over his love of high volume rock music. She becomes even more upset when he shows up at the hospital as the newest medical resident in which the brash Drew tries to undermine Lauren's seniority. After Lauren covers for a still-distraught Dr. Michael Mancini over a botched case, he pays off her entire student loan as a reward which leads to her deciding to quit her call-girl profession. But Wendi forbids it out of greed due to Lauren being her most lucrative girl. Meanwhile, Riley asks Ben for a teaching job at a public school, which infuriates the jealous Amanda who becomes stressed out over some personal and financial issues. David receives life-changing news from an unexpected source which Michael's late wife Vanessa, leaves him a letter involving the origins of his half-brother Noah. When Jonah's first screenplay sells, Ella makes an unrealistic demand of Jonah that backfires which includes him play-acting like he and Riley are still together to a brash and immature star actor who's interested in the lead part.
- Ella is a little overwhelmed by Jonah's constant attention and she eventually decides that couple hood might not be for her. Having accidentally discovered Lauren's secret call-girl job, Michael threatens to tell the authorities and the entire medical board if she doesn't break up with David in which Michael is hell-bent on destroying his life. Lauren easily succumbs to the merciless Dr. Mancini's threat, but David tries to find out why Lauren ended their romance for no reason. In the meantime, David decides to buy the restaurant Coal, but the price turns out to be a little higher than he thought. Meanwhile, Drew begins to moonlight in a rock band. Also, Amanda feels betrayed when she catches Ben and Riley in a compromising position as she travels to New York with him for her new job. Also, Amanda also learns that she is broke after hearing that her accountants stole every dollar from her bank accounts, but she naturally keeps it to herself.
- Having confessed about her secret call-girl profession, Lauren begs David for forgiveness, but David refuses since Lauren put her job and career first (as she always does). Meanwhile, Ella schemes to save her job by wanting to hack into the WPK computer files to erase the fake evidence against her that Amanda planted, but Jonah strongly disagrees with her underhanded tactics, so Ella looks to David for help. David's new role as a restaurant owner is put to the test after he loses some of his staff on the day an important food critic has come to review Coal. In an effort to get David to forgive her, Lauren pitches in as a waitress and hostess and helps him out of his jam. Elsewhere with Drew's help, Riley throws a fund raiser for her education foundation, but when Drew (motivated by greed) tries to increase the donations by auctioning off a date with Riley, things go awry after Drew and a jealous Jonah get into a bidding war over her.
- Ella discovers that someone is embezzling money from WPK and framing her for it. Panicked that she could go to jail, Ella secretly investigates and starts by talking with Jo Reynolds, who realizes Amanda is up to her old tricks again to destroy her career. Meanwhile, Jonah decides to throw a party in the Melrose courtyard to celebrate his newfound success over landing a directing job, as well as to further flaunt his success to Riley. Elsewhere, Jane shows up to confront Amanda for not firing Ella and it's finally revealed that the vindictive and psychotic Jane is the one who orchestrated Amanda's return and set up everything behind the scenes all for the sole purpose to destroy Ella's career, while Jane also has a run-in with her equally psychotic and merciless ex-husband Michael. Elsewhere, Lauren is shocked after Michael threatens to reveal her secret of being a call-girl if she doesn't have sex with him, which leads to her making a hard decision to do so and be unfaithful to David, since Lauren (like everyone else in the series) feels that her job and career come first. Also, Riley and Drew share a nice and casual first date.
- In the season finale, Amanda officially fires Ella from WPK and cuts off all Ella's severance pay and referrals. However, Ella will not go down with out a fight and she soon finds the stolen painting that Amanda has been looking for and blackmails her for it. Meanwhile, Drew tries to stop Michael from performing a dangerous heart surgery, but Michael sets Drew up to get caught with drugs, causing Drew to be thrown in jail, and out of UCLA. Eventually, Drew confesses to Riley that he had a surgery five months ago by Dr. Mancini which results now that he may die anytime. Hearing about Drew's plight, Lauren risks her job and career to stop Dr. Mancini from another M-valve surgery by announcing out his secret in front of his surgical team. David and Lauren reconcile, but the jealous, wild-child Morgan seeks revenge by having her equally evil gangster father beat up and blackmail David into performing robberies for him. Jonah asks Riley to reconcile after the NYU reunion program but she denies out of pride. Elsewhere, Amanda becomes haunted by Sydney's illusion.
