Already a veteran of the Peking Opera, he starred in countless black and white costume dramas before son Woo-Ping Yuen cast him in _Snake in Eagle's Shadow_ , the film which launched Jackie Chan's career. He then went on to feature alongside Chan and Jeong-lee Hwang(_Snake in Eagle's Shadow_'s main villain and the villain again in this film) in the sequel _Drunken Master_. These two films saw his stock rising and on the production of one film, he had to change hotels every night to avoid producers with dubious connections. He died during the filming of the Sammo Hung picture _The Magnificent Butcher_, meaning his scenes had to be re-filmed. James Haworth Aye Jr. was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1907. He was the son of Emma Bischoff and James H. Aye, an attorney. His family moved to Los Angeles in 1911. Jimmy worked as an actor and writer in Hollywood. He had bit parts in the films My Man Godfrey and Marked Woman. His older sister was stage and screen actress Marion Aye. In May of 1935 Jimmy married actress Edna Waldron. This was his second marriage. Edna and Jimmy were divorced in 1938. The couple reconciled in 1940 when they worked together on the movie Brother Orchid. Jimmy and Edna were planning to remarry when she tragically died in a fire in August of 1940. Jimmy married Virginia McCarty in 1943. In February of 1951 his mother Emma died. Five months later his sister Marion Aye committed suicide at the age of forty-eight.
