John Nettles has been a familiar face on British and International television screens for over 30 years.
From his early beginnings in the UK hit comedy The Liver Birds (1969), he became a household name overnight playing the Jersey detective Jim Bergerac. The series, Bergerac (1981), was a huge hit in Britain and was exported to many countries across the world including France, Spain, and Greece, gaining him thousands of fans.
His newfound fame as Bergerac gave him almost film-star-like fame and fortune, not to mention thousands of female admirers!
Despite Bergerac (1981) being mothballed in the early 1990s, the series still has a considerable fan base and lingering popularity abroad, especially in Jersey, where images of John Nettles are still used for advertising tourist attractions and other services on the island.
Nettles' polished Shakesperean performances have won him critical acclaim and many consider him to rival fellow British stalwarts of theatre such as Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen.
Oddly enough, however, he has never really ventured onto the big screen and has seemed happy to stick to stage and television throughout his successful career.
Most recently he has enjoyed continued success playing the straightforward DCI Tom Barnaby in ITV's Midsomer Murders (1997). He is on record as wanting to create a TV detective without any of the usual tics, and consequently Tom Barnaby is a happy family man who just happens to live in the most murderous part of an otherwise stereotypical idyllic English countryside.- Actress

Seán James Sutton is an English actor working in film & tv. He lives in Greece but travels extensively around the world for work.
He began his acting career in theatre at college, but then moved in front of the camera. Seán usually plays strong men: diplomats, bosses, lawyers, politicians, criminals and so on. It's not unusual for his characters to be dangerous and flawed and there's often a dash of irony or sarcasm to them as well.
Born in the UK, after graduating university he lived and worked in Greece, Italy, Spain, Malta, Switzerland, Germany, and Australia. He is vegan, loves dogs and when he's not working, he spends almost every day watching European films which he loves.- Zelah Clarke was born on 5 November 1953 in Redruth, Cornwall, England, UK. She is an actress, known for Jane Eyre (1983), Lady Jane (1986) and How Green Was My Valley (1975). She has been married to Francis Ash since 1992. They have one child.
- Anna was educated at Rise Hall Convent in Yorkshire and trained as an actress at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. She followed this with rep at Bristol, Leatherhead and Leeds before embarking on a successful film and television career. Her stage appearances included productions of 'Smith By Any Other Name', 'School for Scandal', 'Present Laughter', 'Butley' (in Vienna), 'Sexual Perversions' (in Chicago) and a number of national tours. She was married to stockbroker Derek Brierley with whom she had a son, Jonathan.
- Lean, aristocratic-looking British character actress,on stage from the 1940's. She was noted on Broadway for her performance (and for bringing the house down with her tango on opening night) as Lady India in Jean Anouilh's 'Ring Around the Moon' (1950-51). On television, her aquiline features and impeccable bearing led to her gravitating towards upper class roles as wealthy or snooty socialites -- few more memorable than her unnamed party-goer in the dream sequence of The Prisoner (1967) episode "A.B.and C."; and as Mrs. Butterworth, who not only resides in Patrick McGoohan's old flat and drives his sports car but turns out to be another Number 2 (in the episode "Many Happy Returns"). She also had to graciously scrape the mould of a bread-roll offered her by Steptoe and Son (1962) in "Loathe Story", as the hyphenated mother of Joanna Lumley.
Georgina had a rare lead in the title role of the low-budget thriller The Woman Who Wouldn't Die (1965) as Gary Merrill's crippled and demanding wife, who, unsurprisingly gets killed and disposed of in the potting shed. Of course, she comes back to haunt her evil hubby (really, just a double-cross staged by his two accomplices). In many of her other appearances on screen, Georgina played opposite great British comic actors, from Sidney James to Tony Hancock. Privately, her circle of friends included Denholm Elliott and Terry-Thomas (with whom she shared the stage in 'Full House'). Her final curtain call before retirement in Australia was as the lead in the comedy play 'A Breath of Spring' in 1990. - Michael Ward was born George William Everard Yeo on 9th April 1909 in the village of Carmenellis, Cornwall. Being the son of a clergyman, his family moved from parish to parish for most of his early life. He detested this nomadic lifestyle and being an only child. It was not until 1930 when the family settled in Caddington, near Luton, that he got the chance to make friends and become independent.
Between 1930 and 1945 Michael worked as a private tutor and then as an ambulance driver during the war years.
By March 1946 he had chosen acting after abandoning his first love, to be a concert pianist, winning a scholarship to the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.
On completing the course, he began auditioning and in 1946 landed the role as understudy to comedian Vic Oliver in The Night and the Music at the Coliseum, now the home of English National Opera.
This was the beginning of a long career in supporting roles comprising of nearly seventy films, twenty West End shows and over two hundred television appearances.
It was in 1947 that Michael secured his first film role. Directed by Alexander Korda, An Ideal Husband starred Paulette Goddard and was released in June of that year. It was generally well received and acted as a springboard for Michael's screen career, as between 1947 and 1960 he starred in no fewer than thirty films, making him one of the country's busiest and best-known character actors.
The year 1961 brought Michael to the attention of an even wider audience, playing the photographer in Carry On Regardless. Further roles in the series included 'Man in Tweeds' in Carry On Cabbie, 'Archimedes' in Carry On Cleo, 'Vivian the Window Dresser' in Carry On Screaming and 'Andre the Wigmaker' in Carry On Don't Lose Your Head.
The BFI credited Michael as delivering one of the funniest one liners in British film history, as the effete gentleman in tweeds who alights from Kenneth Connors' black cab. Remember it? Watch it again and judge for yourself.
Other classic British comedy vehicles included four Norman Wisdom comedies, as well as dozens of other films, but eventually television provided the bread and butter of his later career.
His work on the big screen was reflected on TV, from the early 1960's to the mid-1970's, the golden age of British television comedy. Appearances ranged from Hancock's Half Hour, The Jack Benny Show, Steptoe and Son, Sykes and Rising Damp. Other shows included The Avengers, The Two Ronnies and The Dick Emery Show. He was most memorably cast in Morecambe and Wise, where he played Adrian, the comedy duo's extremely camp next door neighbour.
After making what would be his last ever screen outing in 1978's Revenge of the Pink Panther, Michael suffered a stroke, forcing him to retire. He finally passed away on 8 November 1997 at St Mary's Hospital, Ladbroke Grove, London, aged eighty-eight. - Director
