Angry Asian Murder Hornets (2020)

Review by TheLastPersonStanding

Angry Asian Murder Hornets

It's somewhat boring and extremely anticlimactic, but it made me laugh

"Angry Asian Murder Hornets" (or just "Murder Hornets") is definitely not a good film, but I think it's *somewhat* entertainingly bad. The acting is both decent and bad, the special effects are terrible, there are some ugly-looking shots, and there's too much footage of people walking, but I found the film to be kinda funny. It's probably both intentionally and unintentionally funny.

It begins with a gothic woman named Malvolia talking to the viewer. She introduces the film and we later find out she's a cannibal. At first, I was kinda confused why she's in the film. I guess she's a horror host. After I looked up what a horror host is, her appearance made sense to me. Anyway, we then get a narrator who gently tells us about bees. He says they do "bee s***", which made me laugh. Suddenly, a possibly different narrator (I'm not sure) tells us about murder hornets and the film gets dark. For some reason, we see a flying fuel container in the sky. I dunno why, but it also made me laugh. This film came out in 2020 when there was news about murder hornets, which you may or may not remember. The filmmakers probably wanted to capitalize on this news, so they made this crappy film.

"Angry Asian Murder Hornets" has multiple stories. One is about a guy who does a lot of walking and takes photographs. At one point, he seemed to be taking photos of nothing, which confused me. Was he taking nature photos? This film has dramatic music that sounds like it was made by John Carpenter. Admittedly, the music is really good, but why is it used when people are just walking normally? It doesn't make your film more exciting. It makes it confusing and a bit comical. It sounds like it belongs in a different film. Maybe one made by Carpenter. I mentioned that this film has too much walking. Yeah, it definitely does. The film is only about an hour long, but I think a lot of the walking could've been removed. Maybe it could work in, I dunno, an avant-garde film, but I really don't think "Angry Asian Murder Hornets" is an avant-garde film.

You see fake-looking murder hornets attacking people. It just reminds me of the birds in another kind of entertainingly bad film called "Birdemic: Shock and Terror". Those murder hornets did make me laugh. Another story is about a guy who has a large collection of films on Blu-ray (or whatever). Instead of watching a film, he decides to go swimming, but he's attacked by the hornets. The performance of this guy is pretty funny and it seems to be intentionally funny. However, that story is brief and doesn't go anywhere. In fact, the other stories don't go anywhere. This film has such a terrible ending that it makes the ending of "The Devil Inside" seem good by comparison.

"Angry Asian Murder Hornets" isn't one of the worst films I've ever seen because I laughed multiple times while watching it. So it did give me *some* entertainment. Even though the scenes of people walking are rather boring, I've seen other films that are much more boring. This film is still bad, though, and I don't think I can recommend it. If you wanna watch a film that's more entertainingly bad and has violent insects similar to murder hornets, watch "The Wicker Man" (2006).
