Disney/Marvel’s billion-dollar blockbuster Black Panther led all nominees for the 50th NAACP Image Awards that were unveiled today. Winners celebrating the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of TV, music, literature and film will be unveiled March 30 at the Dolby Theatre in a ceremony that will air live on TV One.
Nominees were announced Wednesday during the network’s sessions at the TCA winter press tour in Pasadena.
Black Panther, which has grossed $1.35 billion at the global box office and is up for seven Oscars including Best Picture, scored 16 nominations including in every field — film (including for co-writer/director Ryan Coogler and nearly the entire cast), TV (a Marvel’s Avengers: Black Panther’s Quest animated series on Disney Xd), music (Kendrick Lamar and Sza’s Oscar-nominated “All the Stars” and the soundtrack album) and even as prose novel.
