James Pond, a writer/producer for 25 years on such comedies as Newhart, Night Court, Hope & Faith and Living Single, has died at age 60. He passed on Jan. 3 at his home, with the cause as yet undetermined and being investigated by the county coroner.
Born Nov. 19, 1958 in San Diego, the family shortly thereafter moved to Costa Mesa, Calif. Pond graduated from Mater Dei High School in 1977 and attended Orange Coast College, majoring in journalism. He transferred to Uc Irvine, then spent a year at the University of Missouri.
His first job was in public relations for Wynn Oil Company and later Toyota Motor Sales, USA,. After two years at Toyota, Pond and friend Bill Fuller quit to try to break into Hollywood as comedy writers.
