“A Star is Born” has been bested by the comic book adaptation “Venom” for two weekends at the box office, but Tom Hardy is no match for the movie musical on the Billboard charts. The “Star” soundtrack, which was released on October 5 along with the movie, has topped the Billboard 200 albums chart. And it’s the biggest week for a soundtrack in more than three years.
The album featuring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper led the way with 231,000 equivalent album units, which are calculated by combining traditional album sales with individual track sales and online streams. Despite the recent success on the charts for soundtracks like “The Greatest Showman” and “Black Panther,” this is the biggest week for a soundtrack since “Fifty Shades of Grey” topped the Billboard 200 in February 2015 with 258,000 album units.
