Jia Zhangke returns to New York, where he'll be discussing his work during Tuesday's Directors Dialogue. On Wednesday and Thursday, the New York Film Festival screens Walter Salles's documentary, Jia Zhangke, A Guy from Fenyang. Before all that, Jia and Zhao Tao will be on hand for the Us premiere of Mountains May Depart, which saw its world premiere in Cannes before screening as a Special Presentation in Toronto. "Jia," writes Nyff director Kent Jones, "is the cinema’s great epic poet of drift—one is always aware of the movement of time in the span of a given narrative, the physical sensation of the ground shifting beneath our feet." We've got more reviews, the trailer and a clip. » - David Hudson...
