Universal Pictures has nabbed the spec script “Berliner.”
The spy thriller was written by F. Scott Frazier, who penned the upcoming “Autobahn,” about an American backpacker on the run from drug smugglers.
The film will be produced by “Fast & Furious” scribe Chris Morgan, who will oversee the film through his Chris Morgan Productions banner. Morgan and Frazier are currently working on a number of films with the studio, including “Day One” and “Heatseekers,” the latter directed by Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted”).
Chris Cowles (“The Numbers Station”) and Dmg Entertainment (“Iron Man 3″) will also produce “Berliner” with executive producer Chris Fenton (“The Vatican Tapes”).
In addition to the “Fast” films, Morgan is working with screenwriter Alex Kurtzman on a new franchise that will draw on monster characters from Universal’s film library. The studio is associated with the Frakenstein, Wolfman and other horror franchises.
