Wer kennt es nicht, das heißgeliebte Plattencover seiner Jugendjahre? Die Chancen stehen gut, dass der holländische Fotograf Anton Corbijn für eben jenes Cover verantwortlich ist. Doch obwohl fast jeder seine berühmten Schwarzweißfotografien und Plattencover von Bands wie Depeche Mode, U2, R.E.M. oder Joy Division kennt, verblieb die Privatperson Corbijn bisher weitestgehend im Hintergrund.
Mit seinem neuen ästhetischen Look war Anton Corbijn stilprägend für die Populärkultur sowie Imagebildung zahlreicher Bands der 80er und 90er Jahre und wird nun in Klaartje Quirijns Dokumentation selbst als Teil jener Popkultur vorgestellt und aufgearbeitet. So zeichnet die niederländische Regisseurin mit Anton Corbijn Inside Out ein intimes und privates Porträt über den Mann, der für seine Porträtfotografien weltweit berühmt wurde. Hierbei bietet sie weniger einen Einblick in Corbijns Arbeit, sondern vielmehr Einsichten in sein Privatleben als Kind, als Jugendlicher und als Alltagsperson.
