Survivor castaways rarely form romantic connections, aka showmances, during the game. And that’s mostly because they’re focused on winning the $1 million and the title of Sole Survivor, but also because they go days and weeks without taking a shower or brushing their teeth. However, every once in a while, two players can’t deny their chemistry (which seems to be happening in season 44), and a Survivor showmance forms.

As a quick note, our list of the five most recent Survivor showmances doesn’t include couples who got together after their seasons ended or before they began.
The CBS reality competition series’ last showmance was between Dan Rengering and Kara Kay in David vs. Goliath. Producers assigned them to the Goliath tribe to start the game, and they immediately hit it off.

Wednesday’s “Survivor: Ghost Island” season finale was one for the record books, as Domenick Abbate and Wendell Holland tied for the win at the final tribal council. In the end, non-tied finalist Laurel Johnson was given the power to cast the deciding vote and she chose Wendell, with whom she had a closer personal relationship on the island. While some of our readers are happy that Wendell joined the “Survivor” winners list, the vast majority believe that Domenick was robbed.

We knew the final vote would be close, but who could have predicted it would be This close? After 36 seasons, “Survivor” history was made during Wednesday’s “Ghost Island” finale when Wendell Holland and Domenick Abbate tied for the win. They both received five votes from the 10-person jury, while the third finalist Laurel Johnson received no votes. Did this mean that Wendell and Domenick got to split the $1 million prize? “I’m such a ‘Survivor’ nerd that [Ghost Island] felt like I was in a museum of ‘Survivor’ past,” laughs Kellyn Bechtold about experiencing this season’s big twist up close and personal. We’re down to the Top 10 on “Survivor: Ghost Island,” which means it’s the perfect time to split the remaining players into a field of five that can win and five that are most in danger. First up, Donathan Hurley and Angela Perkins could possibly be seen as winners if we’re only looking at the edit, but for different reasons they’re both likely to be cut from the competition before getting anywhere near the finale. Meanwhile, Sebastian Noel, Chelsea Townsend and Jenna Bowman have had (objectively speaking) nearly invisible edits all season — none of them have been shown as strategists of any sort and, sadly, that simply means the producers have no vested interest in depicting them as deserving of the win.

Domenick Abbate has managed to keep his legacy advantage a secret thus far on “Survivor: Ghost Island,” but he’s about to make a tough decision on whether to finally use it. The rules say that the legacy advantage, which gives the bearer immunity, can only be used when there are 13 people left in the game or when there are six people left in the game. Wednesday’s all-new episode will feature the highly anticipated merge, when the three tribes come together as one and the remaining 13 castaways start their individual games. What strategy do you employ when predicting who will be named the winner of “Survivor: Ghost Island”? One clue some prognosticators use is the “winner’s edit,” the belief that producers of the long-running reality TV show typically provide the eventual winner a favorable, heroic and/or ever-present edit throughout the season. One easy way to narrow down which players have favorable edits is to decide which players don’t — consider Chelsea Townsend and Libby Vincek who have been narratively invisible for much of the season so far. It’d be hard to build an argument for either of them to be the beneficiaries of winner’s edits when we know so little about who they are as players and strategists.
Instead, look to the players that have had an abundance of confessionals, are edited into episodes they might otherwise not have an important role in and are shown narrating...

The new version of the Maolo tribe will win both the Reward and Immunity challenges on the March 14 episode of “Survivor: Ghost Island.” That will put someone from the Naviti tribe in the crosshairs for elimination at the end of the episode entitled “Trust Your Gut.” It looks like Chris Noble, who was one of the original members of that team, will be sent packing at the tribal council. For a preview of the episode, including a closer look at both challenges, click through the photos above.
After the swap in episode three, the Naviti tribe is comprised of three original members besides Noble — Domenick Abbate, Wendell Holland and Angela Perkins — and four Malolo players: Donathan Hurley, Laurel Johnson, James Lim and Libby Vincek. If Noble is bounced, that means that some of his original teammates turned against him.
The Malolo tribe still has Jenna Bowman, Stephanie Johnson, Brendan Shapiro and Michael Yerger.

According to Gold Derby’s exclusive predictions, Brooklyn, New York resident Chris Noble will be voted out of “Survivor” following his brief stint at Ghost Island. After last week’s tribe swap, Chris remained on the Naviti tribe along with original members Morgan Ricke, Domenick Abbate, Wendell Holland and Angela Perkins. The four Malolo players who joined them were Donathan Hurley, Laurel Johnson, James Lim and Libby Vincek. If our predictions hold true that Chris is headed home, does that mean Domenick, Wendell and/or Angela abandon their old Naviti tribal lines and join up with the Malolo castaways?

“My first reaction was, this is an epic theme and probably has been in the works for a long time,” Stephanie Gonzalez tells us after being the first person voted out of “Survivor: Ghost Island.” (Read our live blog recap of the season premiere.) “There’s been so many mistakes and idols played wrong and fake idols that were terrible and idols taken home. I was excited, but I was scared. I’m like, ‘Oh my God!’ Now you’ve gotta really bring your A-game. You really have to correct what past players have done, and that’s a lot of pressure.” Listen to our “Survivor” exit interview podcast above.
“You don’t want to be that girl that went home with James’ idol,” Gonzalez adds about the immense pressure she felt about the Ghost Island twist for Season 36 of CBS’s landmark reality TV show. “Talking about it has chills on my arms.
