Kevin J. Mello

Kevin J. Mello was born in Watertown, N.Y. and grew up in Southeastern Massachusetts, He serves as President and Chief Financial Officer for Music Media Solutions. He is a self-taught bassist, guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist with over 30 years of live performance and recording experience.
In June 1979, Mello enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer with the intent of eventually joining the Massachusetts State Police. In October 1979 he was sent to the Army's Military Police training center at Fort McClellan in Anniston Alabama. He suffered a knee injury during basic training and was discharged when it was discovered that he had not disclosed a previous knee injury which occurred when he was 12 years old.
He is an avid ice hockey player and participated in several semi-pro and pro-am leagues. In the late 1980's he turned down the opportunity to play professionally in Europe due to his wife being pregnant with their only child.
Mello holds a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts and is a Cum Laude graduate. He was inducted into the International Honor Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success. In addition, he is a member of the elite MENSA International High IQ Society. As a bass player, self taught musician, and multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass and keyboards), Mello has performed at over 3,000 live events to audiences as large as 25,000 people. At the age of 19, he and his band-mates formed the cover band "Sanctuary" which quickly developed a large following in Southern New England, catching the attention of the owner and very popular "Sebastian's Night Club" in Middletown, R.I. who asked them to be the house band.
In 2002, Mello joined the nationally touring Dan Lawson Band which included appearances at "Bike Week" in Laconia, N.H. , Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Daytona, Fl, as well as several appearances at The Nashville New Music Conference. It was during this time that he began collaborating with Dan Lawson Band keyboardist Sean Hagon.
In 2003, Mello performed with The Dan Lawson Band aboard the Aircraft Carrier Intrepid in New York City at a memorial concert on the second anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01. The concert was held as a benefit to raise money for the victims and families who lost loved ones during the attack. That same year Mello and Hagon were technical advisers for "The Night of Healing Concert" in Providence, R.I. which was held to raise money for the victims of The Station Night Club fire. This successful event included performances by Mark Farner (formerly of Grand Funk Railroad), Rick Derringer, Paul Shortino, Blue Oyster Cult, Vanilla Fudge, John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band and many other well known acts.
In 2006, Mello joined The Dan Lawson Band for a performance on the HBO Original Series "Family Bonds". In 2007, he collaborated with Sean Hagon on music for the Fox Sports Net New England Original Series "Celebrity Build" which starred NFL players Matt Light of The New England Patriots and John Runyan of the Philadelphia Eagles. In 2010 and 2011, Mello hosted and co-emceed the "Monster Jam" monster truck rally at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI.
Mello's collaborations with Hagon have included music for several local and national television shows as well as television and radio commercials, corporate jingles, and the theme song for a children's television show which is under development in South Korea. They have provided music for The History Channel's "American Pickers" tv show as well as several other television shows, movies and commercial jingles.
Mello has endorsing artist deals with Spector Basses, Curt Mangan Strings, Nordstrand Pickups and Korg products. In addition to these brands, he also uses Ampeg amplifiers and speaker cabinets, Furman Power Conditioners, Fender and Martin guitars, and Tech 21 /Sansamp products.
Formerly with the premier Foreigner and Bad Company Tribute Band "Merchants of Cool", Mello currently performs live with Sean Hagon.
