Karachi, May 4 (Ians) Debutant allrounder Cole McConchie made a bold unbeaten 64 and Tom Blundell (65) top-scored but their efforts went in vain as a series of errors consigned New Zealand to a 26-run defeat in the third Odi, giving hosts Pakistan an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five-match Odi series.
Chasing Pakistan’s 287/6. build on superb fifties by opener Imam-ul-Haq (90) and skipper Babar Azam (54) at the National Stadium here, the Black Caps were dismissed for 261 in the last over and suffered their third successive defeat in the series.
After skipper Tom Latham won the toss and elected to field first, Tom Blundell, in his first appearance of the series, top-scored but was one of two unnecessary run-out victims as the tourists made a mess of their run chase.
The opener/wicketkeeper cruised to 65 from 78 balls before taking on the arm of Mohammad Wasim when attempting a second run and falling short.

Auckland, Feb 2 (Ians) New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson is set for an international return after recovering from his back injury as he was named in the 14-member Test squad to face England in a two-Test series at home, starting later this month.
Jamieson last played for New Zealand against England in the Nottingham Test last year, when he was forced off the field with a back injury. Missing in action for more than seven months, he recently played T20 and List A cricket for Auckland.
The tall fast bowler is one among five quick-bowling options in the squad with skipper Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Matt Henry and Blair Tickner the others.
“Kyle is a very determined character with a strong desire to play international cricket for New Zealand. Since he was forced from the field in Nottingham he’s been very clear that he wants to get his body right to return,...

Ranchi, Jan 27 (Ians) India captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first against New Zealand in the first T20I of the three-match series at the Jsca International Stadium in Ranchi, here on Friday.
“Looks like a very good track. The reason behind the decision to bowl first is that the ground is going to get quite wet, I can see some dew now itself. Just go out there and play the best cricket we know.”
“It’s a young side, everyone’s ready to go. We will focus on playing good cricket. Playing the ODIs before T20Is makes it easy to pass on. For a lot of them it is an experience just being in the team. Yuzi (Yuzvendra Chahal), Mukesh (Kumar), Jitesh (Sharma) and Prithvi (Shaw) miss out,” Hardik said at the toss.

Indore, Jan 25 (Ians) Shardul Thakur emerged as one of the architects of India’s 90-run victory over New Zealand to take the series 3-0, contributing with both bat and ball in the match played at Holkar Stadium here.
Despite Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill making centuries, India were in danger of being shot for a score below 375 as New Zealand clawed their way back. Thakur produced three fours and a six in his 17-ball 25 to propel India to 385.
With the ball, Thakur didn’t have a smooth start as Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls attacked him in Power-play as New Zealand raced to 184/2 at the halfway mark. When Thakur came back, he derailed New Zealand’s chase by bouncing out Daryl Mitchell and then had captain Tom Latham chipping a knuckleball, which was a full toss, straight to mid-off.

Indore, Jan 25 (Ians) New Zealand opener Devon Conway, whose superb 100-ball 138 went in vain as India won the third Odi to clean sweep the series, said his team’s failure to build more partnerships and putting the Indian bowlers under pressure led to their defeat at the Holkar Stadium here.
Chasing a mammoth total of 385/9l, New Zealand got off to the worst possible start as Hardik Pandya removed Finn Allen for a duck in the very first over. However, the early wicket didn’t affect Conway and Henry Nicholls much as they raised 106 runs for the second wicket before Nicholls was out.
Conway and Daryl Mitchell then took the score to 184. But Shardul Thakur scalped three back-to-back wickets of Mitchell (24), Tom Latham (0) and Glenn Phillips (5) to swing the contest back into India’s favour, leaving New Zealand struggling at 200/5 after 27.4 overs. They were eventually bowled out for 295 in 41.2 overs.

Indore, Jan 24 (Ians) Captain Rohit Sharma, who smashed a long-awaited Odi century in India’s thumping 90-run win in the third and final game against New Zealand, revealed that the knock meant a lot to him, adding that he might haven’t got that magical figure but been batting well.

However, on Tuesday, the 35-year-old ended his Odi century drought, scoring 101 off 85, his 30th ton during a 212-run partnership with Shubman Gill (112 off 78) for the opening wicket, which helped India register a convincing win.
“Today’s hundred means a lot to me. I’ve been batting well, so it was just about going that extra mile,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation.

Indore, Jan 24 (Ians) New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the toss and opted to field first in the third and final Odi against India at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, here on Tuesday.
New Zealand, who are seeking the consolation win, made one change in their playing XI with Jacob Duffy replacing Henry Shipley.
“We are gonna have a bowl, it is a good surface and it will get better under lights. We have put on good performances in the past and will look to put another good performance here. It will be high-scoring and the nature of the boundaries are short. We have got one change, Jacob Duffy comes in for Henry Shipley,” said Latham at the toss.
On the other hand, India, who have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, made two changes as Umran Malik and Yuzvendra Chahal come in for Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami.

New Delhi, Jan 23 (Ians) India’s left-handed wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has avoided a lengthy suspension on his attempt to deliberately appeal for a hit-wicket against New Zealand captain Tom Latham in the first Odi at Hyderabad.
A report in stuff.co.nz on Monday said under the Icc’s Code of Conduct, Kishan could have been charged with a Level 3 offence of attempting to gain an unfair advantage – which leads to a suspension of between four and 12 ODIs or Twenty20 internationals.
The incident happened on the fourth ball of the 16th over when Latham, playing his first ball of the match, went deep in his crease and tapped off left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav through the leg side.
Kishan suddenly went up in appeal and was joined in the same by captain Rohit Sharma. The square seg umpire instantly took the decision upstairs, mainly unclear as to what exactly had happened.

Indore, Jan 23 (Ians) After taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Odi series, India could be looking at making some changes to their playing eleven for the third and final game as they seek a 3-0 finish against New Zealand at Holkar Stadium on Tuesday.
After a 3-0 series victory over Sri Lanka, India wouldn’t want to let their guard down in a dead rubber and inflict a series sweep over a New Zealand missing stalwarts like Kane Williamson and Tim Southee.
New Zealand, on the other hand, will have pride to play for in Indore and a win would do their confidence a world of good ahead of the three T20Is against India, where Mitchell Santner will be captaining them.

Raipur, Jan 22 (Ians) After suffering a loss in the second Odi against India, New Zealand captain Tom Latham admitted that the unswerving accuracy of Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj with line and lengths didn’t give any easy scoring options to the visitors.
The Rohit Sharma-led side registered a dominating eight-wicket win against New Zealand in Raipur on Saturday, where the fast bowlers won the game for India in the opening exchanges, reducing New Zealand to 15/5 inside 11 overs.

Rohit admitted he forgot what was actually decided to do on winning the toss and added that India are playing with the same eleven from the 12-run victory in Hyderabad.
“Just wanted to challenge ourselves under difficult conditions. Was a good test for us, knowing that the wicket will get better to bat on and that was the challenge in front of us. Bracewell batted well, but we bowled well in the end and won the game.”
“There was a bit of dew during the practice sessions, but we’ve heard from the curator that it will not play a role on game days. We batted first in Hyderabad, we wanted to bowl first here,...

Raipur, Jan 20 (Ians) After surviving a mighty scare from all-rounder Michael Bracewell in a successful defence of 349 in the first match, India will be aiming to overcome New Zealand challenge in the second Odi and clinch back to back 50-over match series at home here, which will be Raipur’s debut as an international cricket venue on Saturday.
The Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Cricket Stadium, with a crowd capacity of 49,000, is all set to become the 50th venue in India to host an Odi match. The stadium had hosted two Ipl games of Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2013 and 2015, and also played host to eight matches of the now-defunct Champions League T20.
In this huge backdrop, the capacity crowd being treated to India clinching an Odi series for the second time in 2023 will add more stars to the occasion. But there are some glitches which the Rohit Sharma-led...

Hyderabad, Jan 19 (Ians) In Indias 12-run victory over New Zealand in the Odi series opener at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday, 31,187 fans were treated to 208 from Shubman Gill and 140 from Michael Bracewell.
But India all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s freak clean bowled dismissal off Daryl Mitchell also became a huge talking point even after the match was over.
The dismissal occurred in the 40th over of India’s innings, when Hardik tried to cut a delivery through the third man but saw his off-stump bail being dislodged as the ball passed extremely close to the stumps and the on-field umpires referred the call to the TV umpire K Ananthapadmanabhan.
Replays showed that wicketkeeper and New Zealand skipper Tom Latham was standing up to the stumps. He also had his gloves very close to the bails, which looked to light up just after the ball had passed over the top...

Hyderabad, Jan 19 (Ians) India wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan was slammed when he appeared to get the umpires into believing New Zealand captain Tom Latham had been out hit wicket during the first Odi at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
The square-leg umpire instantly took the decision upstairs, mainly unclear as to what exactly had happened.
Kishan and the Indian team appealed for Latham’s dismissal, indicating that the batter had disturbed the bails by stepping on his stumps. But replays checked by TV umpire K. Ananthapadmanabhan showed Kishan had deliberately knocked a bail off with his glove – at...

Gill’s 208 is the joint-ninth highest individual score in a Men’s Odi and he becomes one of just eight players in history to have reached the milestone in the format.
“Shubman played one of the most outstanding knocks. Somebody as young as Shubman to get that double-hundred and show that much maturity, especially with Kohli and everybody else getting out,” Jaffer told ESPNCricinfo.

Hyderabad, Jan 18 (Ians) India captain Rohit Sharma was one relieved man after winning the first Odi by 12 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, surviving a mighty scare from Michael Bracewells 140, here.
With a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, Rohit praised Shubman Gill for his scintillating 208, saying the right-hander has been fantastic to watch while calling fast bowler and local lad Mohammed Siraj, who starred with 4/46, brilliant.
“Watching Gill bat is fantastic, clean striking and no aerial shots. We wanted to give him a run before the Sl series the kind of form he was in. He’s such a free-flowing batsman. Siraj has been brilliant, of late even in the other two formats. He’s gone from strength to strength, running hard and clear about what he wants to do. He’s not afraid to use the short ball as well which is exciting,” said Rohit in post-match presentation ceremony.
