Mumbai, Sep 3 (Ians) “Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who is the greatest Indian track and field athlete ever?”
Till a few years back, as an answer to this question, some would have said Milkha Singh. Some others might have taken the name of Sriram Singh, some would have said P.T. Usha and some may have said Anju Bobby George.
All of them are legends of Indian track and field who have scripted golden chapters in the history of Indian sports.
But in the last few years, there is one athlete who has surged ahead in the race.
Ever since he won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has taken the lead in the poll.
And, after winning the gold medal at the World Championships in Budapest on August 27, Chopra has clearly established himself as the Greatest of All Time (G.O.A.T), because...

New Delhi, June 13 (Ians) Former track and field athlete Gurbachan Singh Randhawa on Tuesday resigned as the chairman of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) selection committee after holding the post for 18 years.
In a letter to AFI president Adille Sumariwalla, Randhawa, who was the first track and field athlete to receive the Arjuna Award in 1961, said that due to the challenges posed by advancing age, it has become difficult for him to dedicate his full commitment to the job.
“I have resigned as the Chairman of the Athletics Federation of India Selection Committee after serving in the position for 18 years. New Delhi, Nov 26 (Ians) With India participating and organising several sports events every year, the country has become part of a select group having their anti-doping law, Sujata Chaturvedi, Secretary of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports informed on Saturday.
Besides having a revamped anti-doping law, the government is also in the process of introducing proper testing facilities for the dietary supplements industry, an unregulated sector that is leading to athletes inadvertently taking prohibited substances.
“We are now heading towards a completely revamped national anti-doping programme housed in our National Anti-doping Agency,” she said.
In addition, she emphasised proper regulated testing facilities for the dietary supplements industry, which is primarily unregulated, leading to athletes inadvertently getting tested positive for prohibited substances.
She said, “We recently entered into an Mou with the National Forensic Science University, Ahmedabad and the Food Safety Standards Authority of India, for a lab to help with the dietary supplement testing.

New Delhi, Sep 9 (Ians) Ace Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra feels its high time Indian track and field athletes too start making their presence felt in numbers at major international competitions, adding that he at times feels lonely being the only athlete from the country competing in big events such as the Diamond League.
Chopra, the World Championships silver medallist, capped his superb season by winning the title at the Wanda Diamond League Final in Zurich on Thursday, becoming the first Indian to win the Diamond League Final Trophy. Chopra’s throw of 88.84 metres proved enough to seal the title.
Woman long jumper Anju Bobby George had won its precursor — the World Athletics Finals, as it was called then — in 2005. Anju initially won silver in that but her medal was upgraded to gold a few years later as the Russian winner of the event had a doping violation. So, Neeraj...
