Cellista
- Composer
- Music Department
Cellista is a nomadic performance artist. She creates stage poems (narrative multimedia works) after those of the artist Jean Cocteau, which juxtapose seemingly disparate elements. Her stage poems are acts of resistance art; investigating the ruptures of daily life. They are politically concerned, observant, and revealing; breaking down the borders between audiences and performers, disciplines, genres, and beliefs.
Her work is based in her belief that creating art is a radical act; one that illuminates fragmentations and allows us as witnesses to attend to our collective wounds and transfigure them.
Her next stage poem Pariah, set to be released in Fall 2021, is an operatic fairytale with semi-autobiographical overtones featuring a companion book by philosopher Frank Seeburger. It explores issues of othering and exile in our communities.
Cellista is a former San Jose arts commissioner and currently serves as an elected chapter governor on the SF Recording Academy Board (Grammys). She completed her masters in business at Berklee College of Music this past Fall.
