Gregory Phillips(VII)

Gregory was born in Port Chester New York but was raised in Greenwich Connecticut. From an early age he should an interest in the arts. As a boy, he and his brothers would perform for family and friends and church. In Junior High School, he performed in a couple of plays and in his senior year of High School, he choreographed and dance number for the senior variety show.
After high school, he spent several months hitch hiking around the country. After landing in Sacramento California, he moved in with brother. one of his brothers friends was taking an acting class. Gregory sat in on the class ans at the moment, he knew what he wanted to spend his life doing. A few days later, he hitch hiked back to New York and enrolled in New York Academy of Theatrical Arts. For the next two years he took classes and did theater in and around New York. During this time he met and worked and became a student, friend and fellow actor with Robert Earl Jones. Through Robert, he was encouraged to go to college and study classical theater. He enrolled Bard College and earned his BFA in Theater. While there, he won a scholarship to study at The London Academy of Dramatic Arts. After graduation from Bard, he went back to New York City and continued acting. Back in New York, things didn't go as planned, he got involved in drugs and eventually left New York and headed to Minnesota. While in Minnesota, he continued acting. Working at the Guthrie, Illusion,and Penumbra Theaters. During that time, Gregory became interested in writing and pursued his MFA is Creative Writing at Hamlime University in St.Paul, MN. As he became more involved with writing, acting took a back seat. Soon after finishing his degree, he got a job a an English professor. He really enjoyed teaching, working with the students and learning how to write. For the next 15 years he taught at various colleges and universities around the country. The more he taught the more the relationship between acting and teaching showed itself. He decided to pursue his PhD in English. After receiving his PhD, he taught for several more years, then in 2014, he stopped teaching, pack his car and moved to L.A. the passion to act couldn't be ignored anymore.
Since his arrival in Los Angeles, Gregory has continued to find work as an actor. It hasn't always been easy, but like everything else Gregory decides he wants, he doesn't stop until he accomplishes his goal. To be a working, successful actor is no different, and gratefully, I have worked and continue to work. He now sets his sights higher and is excited about what the future holds.
