Ashwin Gobinath is a seasoned professional musician, audio engineer and producer who has been plying his trade in Malaysia over the past 18 years. Having discovered vinyl records in his father's study in his childhood, he quickly embraced the finer aesthetics of composition, groove, feel, emotions, music and audio engineering.
As a musician, he got his start in the Penang Free School marching & concert band, quickly rising to lead his own team of drummers. A 3 year stint in Byron Bay, Australia in 2004, where he pursued his Honours Degree in Audio Engineering, led him to experience the vast world of culture and arts on a global scale. Having worked with some notable producers & acts in the Australian scene such as Jason De Wilde and Wild Marmalade, he then returned to KL to establish himself. Cutting his teeth in Astro Radio and working with producers such as Skeletor provided him the real world training and discipline needed to build a career in producing & performing. He then started performing professionally as a musician/drummer/sessionist for various artists and bands in KL such as Bihzhu, Ray Cheong, Rendra Zawawi, Hameer Zawawi, Russel Curtis, Narmi, Cats In Love, Priscillia Xavier, Car Crash Hearts, Adil Johan Quartet, Dasha Logan, Hannah Lo, Chelsia Ng, Zalila Lee, Volatile, Rashdan Harith, Black Lightbulb, Otam and many more.
In 2010, he started his own recording & rehearsal studio 'Solianos Sound Solutions', linking up with the legendary Solianos family, While juggling his career in music, he started venturing into theatre & acting. He starred in the KLPAC Short & Sweet Festival 2011 'Best Play' & 'Glitz & Glamour' winning piece 'Rupert and The Seven Russian Email Brides'. The following year, he played the lead role in the BMW Shorties Top 10 nominated short film 'Crossroads'. He then took on the role of Senior Music Advisor & Drummer for the multiple Boh Cameronian Award Winning production, 'Sand, The Musical' in 2015.
He also has written Op-Ed pieces for MalaysiaKini and was a music journalist for lifestyle magazine 'Aesthetics Magazine'. He also is a freelance lyricist and lyric translator for English & Malay artists.
As a producer, sound designer and engineer, he has worked with the likes of Billie Blue & The Nowhere Men, Zee Ng, Black Lightbulb, Hameer Zawawi, Volatile, Alena Murang, Four Leaf Clover, DejaVoodooSpells, Kyoto Protocol, UK Artist Carrie Tree, and most recently, legendary journalist Martin Vengadesan of The Star. He has composed, sound designed and mixed many local & international feature films and shorts such as Alam: Kingdom (Int), Sangre Vurdalak (Int), KL24:Zombies, Aliff Dalam 7 Dimensi, King Of Mahjong (Int) and BMW Shorties 2017 award winning 'Selam 2,0', amongst others.
In 2015, he created his 8 piece cultural-fusion band 'Nadir'. While successfully releasing their debut 13 track album 'Synesthesia' in 2017 and tearing up stages all over Malaysia and most recently touring Cambodia & China. He also runs record label/production house 'Nadir Studios'. Continually striving for greater achievements, you can catch Ashwin performing at a festival around you or in his studio, mixing and producing fresh tracks for you.
