Born 23 years ago just outside London (or Essex as people who aren't from there call it), Ben Fletcher is a UK based actor, comedian, writer, producer, publisher, and failed politician.
His first creative work came in 2012 when he trained in the art of producing and presenting live radio. A year later his first book was released in print worldwide. In early 2014, Fletcher spoke in schools across the UK as part of the promotion of this book.
During the 2015 UK elections, Fletcher stood as a local candidate for the Conservative party. Although ultimately losing to three UKIP candidates at once and coming second to last, beating only the Green Party candidate (sorry, Ali), previous candidates had been bad enough that his result was the best the party has received in the seat for a decade and was more than triple their previous vote the last time the seat had been up.
Fletcher was also asked to stand for a parliamentary seat twice in 2017 for different parties but turned this down as he has just arrived in Auckland at the time and it was much nicer.
As of the end of 2015, Fletcher is no longer a member of any political party having left the Conservative Party after feeling increasingly disillusioned with their stances. Fletcher hasn't ruled out standing for office in the future in the United Kingdom or elsewhere. He considers himself a floating voter, having voted Conservative in the 2014 European Elections, Lib Dem in the 2015 General Election, and Green in the 2019 European Elections. He voted remain in the 2016 EU referendum.
In November 2016, Fletcher's first novel, Three by Three, an espionage thriller aimed at a young adult audience was released worldwide. A North American edition of the book followed in April 2017 along with an e-book release in March 2018.
Owning his own publishing company, Fletcher has also published the world of a number of other authors and regularly continues to work with new writers.
As a publisher, Fletcher worked to bring together seven new writers from across the UK and America to create Shattering the Glass Box, An anthology of fresh young female voices sharing their own perspectives on sexual assault, gender discrimination, and other issues that affect women worldwide.
Fletcher also owns the rights to publish the work of popular San Diego comedian, musician, actor and writer, James Schlarmann, as part of the "The Year That Was" series - an annual look back at Schlarmann's best satirical news pieces of the year.
Declared to "probably deserve a knighthood" by Lad Bible in 2015, Fletcher has a proud history of satirizing the far right. He has previously been branded a "waste of a human' by "respected columnist" (Fuckface Von Clownstick, 2015), Katie Hopkins, after attempting to have her swapped out of the UK in return for 50,000 refugees (an effort that attracted more signatures than her TV show attracted viewers, and encouraged people to donate thousands to pro-refugee causes), and been blocked by the leader of the free world for sending him a picture of a cute dog.
In June 2017, Fletcher developed and released for iOS, Spicer in the Bushes, a mobile game where users play as Sean Spicer and help him to hide in the buses from members of the press. Later that year he also released Not Much Happened, a satirical take on the failed attempts of former short-lived White House Communications Director, Anthony Scaramucci, to find a publisher for his memoir.
From an Admirals Club at LAX on the day of Roy Moore's defeat in the Alabama special election, Fletcher began to write his first stage play, TRUMPED: An Alternative Musical. A satirical play that parodies the 2016 Presidential Election campaign of Fuckface Von Clownstick and his subsequent first year in office as President of the United States, the script book is available now worldwide. The first reading of TRUMPED took place in August 2018 featuring Fletcher alongside Brianna Bennett, Flora Fox, Josh Lander, Sophia Smith, and Jeremy Chase reading the title role.
In February 2019, working with Massachusetts based author, Allison Floyd, Fletcher co-wrote and published Marco Rubio Is The Kind of Guy. The book, which is a table-top satirical biography of Florida's second-best senator, has been published in aid of charity, with all profits being donated in the name of Marco Rubio to the March For Our Lives campaign.
In 2019, Fletcher is continuing to undertake pre-production work with a team of producers to bring TRUMPED to the Off-Broadway stage and developing a number of new ideas, including It's Not Us, It's EU - a new farcical comedy being written in a similar style to TRUMPED but based on the UK's exit from the European Union.
In August 2019, Fletcher will be at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019 with a brand new comedy show, Good Morning Nation, which in addition to appearing as a featured performer, he will also be producing, writing and acting as music director for. All performances of Good Morning Nation will also be available to watch online in the United States.
