- After being born in Poland, he soon moved to Vienna, where he worked in the sausage manufacturing field.
- After immigrating to America, he settled in Evanston, Illinois and owned Wachs Sausage Casing Company in Chicago, Illinois.
- After his four months imprisonment as a "Schutzhaeftling" in the "Polizeigefaengnis Rossauer Kaserne" in 1938, he married Berta Goldmann Wachs and escaped to Anvers, Belgium, from where he planned his immigration to the United States. In 1939, he finally left Europe with the help of false papers and a ship bound for New York.
