[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for La Brea Season 2, Episodes 8 & 9, “Stampede” & “Murder in the Clearing.”] La Brea is back and building some serious drama early on in its midseason back-to-back premiere, which saw leading man Gavin (Eoin Macken) forced to make some tough decisions regarding his family’s future. After traveling to the 1980s from 10,000 B.C. and back again, Gavin and his family — son Josh (Jack Martin), daughter Izzy (Zyra Gorecki), and wife Eve (Natalie Zea) — were fully reunited. But the bliss didn’t last long as Gavin crossed paths with his biological mother, Dr. Caroline Clark (Melissa Neal), who warned of the threat his father, James (Jonno Roberts), poses. (Credit: Manfred Baumann) As viewers will recall, Caroline crafted a digital virus that was meant to destroy James’ portal-opening capabilities for the safety of humanity, but once Gavin was ready to deliver the punishing blow upon his return to the past, he couldn’t do it.

NBC’s La Brea season two episode eight ended with Gavin stopping the virus upload when it was 99 complete. Episode nine, “Murder in the Clearing,” picks up minutes later with Gavin (Eoin Macken) demanding to know his dad’s plan for getting them back home.
James (Jonno Roberts) claims his team’s on the verge of fixing the machine so it can be used safely. The catch? Dr. Harold Moore, the only scientist who understands the formula, is missing somewhere in 10,000 BC.
If Gavin can find him, then maybe they can all go home. And, it turns out, Gavin’s mom knows Harold and might know where to locate him.
Eve (Natalie Zea) shows up inside the Tower and wants to know why the virus stopped uploading.

When NBC’s La Brea season two finally returns from its long winter break it will be with an episode that finds Josh missing. While the rest of the group, except for Levi who remained behind, jumped into a sinkhole, Josh apparently either didn’t make the leap or was taken by someone as soon as he landed.
Season two episode eight, “Stampede,” will air at 9pm on January 31, 2023 followed by episode nine, “Murder in the Clearing,” at 10pm Et/Pt.

Many questions were answered, but many new mysteries started on this emotionally-filled and action-packed episode.
Gavin learned the leader of the Lazarus program was his father on La Brea Season 2 Episode 6, and he'd do anything to reconcile with his son. In fact, Lucas got injured in a fight with the guards, and he might not make it.
"Lazarus" threw some gut punches at our beloved characters.
This episode allowed Gavin to find answers to his past and meet his birth father. Since November is National Adoption Month, it's the ideal time to kick Gavin's arc into high gear.
The series has hinted towards Gavin's adoption mystery for weeks, but no one expected his parents to be new characters. I thought Gavin's dad would be the head of the government from LA.
