Paolo Montefusco, born in Naples, was a student of famed Roman violinist Franco Tamponi. He began his career in the the orchestra of the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome and later under Alessandro Scarlatti with the RAI Italian Radio&Television Orchestra in Naples. After winning the string quartet competition in Vittorio Veneto, he receives further training together with the award-winning ensemble at The School of Music in Fiesole under the tutelage of Piero Farulli, violinist of the Quartetto Italiano. The young quartet soon enjoyed a brilliant career as the eponymous quartet of the school. This group later formed the core of the Italian Youth Orchestra from 1982 to 1984 and contemporaneously founded the permanent Philharmonic Orchestra in the Mediterranean city of Cosenza that was an institution of the city theater Alfonso Rendano for over 20 years. He also toured with the great Italian film composer Ennio Morricone. Though well-versed in chamber music, his affinity lies in solo violin repertoire. He has been a violin professor at the Conservatory of Cosenza since 1983, also training orchestral students.
