Abhinav Mellacheruvu is an Indian filmmaker, born and raised in Hyderabad, India. For his Bachelor of Technology, he attended Osmania University, majoring in Electronics and Communications. In college, he stumbled across a book about screenwriting which was his introduction into the world of film production. He later began reading scripts and shooting short videos for his film blog. While in college he worked on set as a clapper for low budget commercials. This gave him the unique opportunity to observe and learn about each department of film production. He later wrote and shot his first short film which gained him admission into NYU's Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Program. Here he developed his skills as a storyteller and cinematographer. Abhinav also interned as an executive assistant to Lindsey Rachel Martin, Vice President of Film and Television Production at Infinite Frameworks and later worked on commercials for brands such as Nikon, Meiji, 7Up, Dove, Instacart, and MTV Asia, some of which have won awards. He also worked on a number of short films, including "Points of Origin" and "Prom," both of which have screened and won awards at over fifteen film festivals across the world including Austin Film Festival, Palm Springs International ShortFest, Rhode Island International Film Festival, Mumbai International Film Festival, First Run Film Festival, Delhi International Film Festival, and Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival.
A turning point in his career came when he got the opportunity to work under one of India's leading Cinematographers, Manoj Parahamasa. Production of the feature film Race Gurram spanned ten months. This movie was a crucial experience in his work as a Cinematographer. Race Gurram was the highest grossing film of 2014, marking the biggest film of actor Allu Arjun's career, earning him the prestigious FilmFare Award for Best Actor. The movie won Best Film at the CinemAA Awards and also won awards at the Nandi awards and South Indian International Movie Awards. As a Cinematographer, Abhinav has been part of productions in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Singapore, Los Angeles, New York, and Seattle. Recently, he worked with renowned New York-based artists Bill Barrett and John Zinsser on their latest art commissions.
