Age is just a number until you get to Hollywood. In a Buzzfeed interview posted on July 18, Sarah Hyland revealed that she almost didn't score an audition for her beloved "Modern Family" role due to her age. In the first season of the show, which aired in 2009, Hyland's character, Haley Dunphy, was meant to be 15 years old, but the actor herself was already 18, leading to some concerns from the producers.
"They were like, 'She's too old.' And at the time, my agent's assistant fought for me to get in the room," Hyland said to Buzzfeed. "She was like, 'She doesn't look 18 years old, I promise you! She looks very, very young!'"
Thanks to the dedication of her team, Hyland got her foot in the door and ended up doing a pre-reading for the cast. Still, because she was perceived to be much older than the character, the casting...

Her best and biggest role to date is absolute as Haley Dunphy on the hit sitcom Modern Family, but we all love Sarah Hyland in anything she does. She’s an exceptionally talented actress and never fails to make us fall in love with her character. However, do you remember when she was on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit? Sarah Hyland’s Svu appearance was good, but people forget she was on there. Actually, she’s been on the show two times. The first time was in 2001, and the second time was in 2009. The second time Sarah Hyland made an

(Warning: Slight spoilers ahead for “Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin”.)
It may be hard to picture “Pitch Perfect” antagonist Bumper Allen with anyone but Fat Amy — even if she did dump him in the third film with no regrets — but it might be a little easier in “Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin.” That’s because we’ve already watched series star Adam Devine fall in love with Sarah Hyland before. According to the duo, it was very easy for them to do on screen.
Fans got their first taste of Devine and Hyland’s chemistry back on “Modern Family,” where Hyland starred as Haley Dunphy. In Season 5, Devine joined the show for a 13-episode arc as Andy Bailey, eventually becoming Haley’s boyfriend. Sadly, it didn’t work out for them in the end. But, at least for now, there’s hope for the duo.

Adam DeVine's Bumper Allen started out as the antagonist of the first "Pitch Perfect" film, but has since evolved into the star of the popular trilogy's spin-off series for Peacock, "Bumper in Berlin." The show sees Bumper trying to revitalize his waning singing career after "Pitch Perfect 2" star Pieter Krämer (Flula Borg) informs him that a TikTok mashup he's made of "Take On Me" by A-ha and "99 Luftballons" by Nena is going viral in Germany. Hoping to capitalize on his 15 minutes of fame, Bumper moves to Berlin to try and grow his budding fanbase with Pieter as his manager. His arrival brings a new host of characters, including Pieter's sister Thea (Lera Abova), who makes music under the name "DJ Das Boot." Bumper feels out of place at first, but quickly finds an ally in Pieter's American assistant, Heidi (Sarah Hyland), a budding singer-songwriter in her own right.

After 11 award-winning seasons of Modern Family, we recently had to officially say goodbye to the characters we know and love. Their quirky personalities and hilarious storylines made for episodes that I'll continue to rewatch forever, but now that the show has come to a close, it's a good time to acknowledge an underrated member of the Dunphy-Pritchett-Tucker clan who deserves more recognition: Haley Dunphy.
I always gravitated towards Haley's storylines the most because, over the years, Hyland and the show's writers made Haley a unique character who departed from traditional "cool girl" tropes. Whenever an episode revolves around Haley's boyfriend troubles or comedic dilemmas, watching her navigate them is something I looked forward to seeing every week.
It's hard to find a television show without a resident "cool girl." You already know the type - popular, pretty, shallow, and usually not the smartest. In a nutshell, that's how you might...

As Modern Family is wrapping up its run with its final season premiering next month, Sarah Hyland, who played the hilarious Haley Dunphy on the series, has a new project in the works for ABC that she will star in, in which she is collaborating with writer Emily V. Gordon.
Gordon co-wrote the hilarious Oscar-nominated romantic comedy The Big Sick with her husband, Kumail Nanjiani, a tale about how the two of them met and fell in love. This new collaboration with Hyland is hailed as a semi-autobiographical comedy, so it can be assumed that the topic may have something to do with the two women’s struggle with chronic illness. But no plot details have been confirmed at this point.

I am so down for this series! I love both these women, and I think this sounds fresh and exciting. Hyland will reportedly move right into this role once...

Sarah Hyland's TV future after Modern Family ends is already taking shape. The actor, who has played Haley Dunphy for 11 seasons of Modern Family, has signed on to star in and executive produce a new comedy, currently going by The Untitled Sarah Hyland + Emily Gordon Project, with The Big Sick's Emily V. Gordon. E! News has learned the show, which has a put-pilot order, is inspired by both Hyland and Gordon's real-life experiences. A put pilot means ABC will either air the pilot at some point or pay the studio, 20th Century Fox Television, a hefty penalty. Gordon is writer and executive producer on the project. This Is Us' Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are on board as executive producers, as is Adam...

ABC is not going to let its comedy hit Modern Family go quietly as the long-running series enters its 11th and final season.
ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke admitted to Deadline on Monday that the current storyline of Hayley Dunphy, played by Sarah Hyland, and her newborn baby with her on-again-off-again boyfriend Dylan, played by Reid Ewing, seems tailor-made for a spinoff.
Modern Family, which also stars Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould and Rico Rodriguez, just launched production on the final season and co-creator/exec producer Steve Levitan said they “plan on finishing strong.”
Burke admitted that Levitan doesn’t yet want to discuss spinoffs. “I get smacked down every time I bring it up to Steve Levitan, so I’m going to stay quiet for a little while,” she said. “They’ve just started production on the final season...

Whether it's a comedy or drama, without a positive character development TV shows can feel bland and boring. It can take seasons or episodes for a character to develop and mature.
Most often these changes are prompted by love, life-changing events, or even age. These elements are what humanizes characters and make them all the more relatable.

It’s official — ABC’s flagship comedy series Modern Family will wrap its run after one more season. The Emmy-winning family comedy has been picked up for an eleventh and final season, the network announced at TCA. I hear it will consist of at least 18 episodes and could expand to 22 episodes.
Modern Family’s renewal was all but assured when the original adult cast, stars Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara, in December agreed on new deals with producing studio 20th Century Fox TV to return. Since then, the studio also has signed co-creators/executive producers Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd for another season, and also has made new deals with the original kid actors — now all young adults — Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould and Rico Rodriguez. I hear some of those cast negotiations came down to the wire, with pacts finally closing overnight.

Remember when we learned back in November that Modern Family character Haley Dunphy (Sarah Hyland) was having a baby? It's just been revealed that she's not expecting just one baby, but two! Yep, you can expect to see twins on the show when Sarah's character gives birth.
However, it seems she wasn't ecstatic with the news at first. In a video shared by People, she can be see saying, "That's impossible, it's a mistake. I can't have twins. That's twice as many babies as we were expecting." Luckily, her mom Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen) jumps in to offer comforting words of advice.
Not all fans were happy when the news originally dropped of Dunphy's pregnancy, with many stating they were not pleased with baby daddy Dylan (Reid Ewing). But only time will tell how it all pans out, and we can't wait to see some adorable twins running around with...

If you thought the Modern Family death was a surprise and then were shocked by the pregnancy twist, well, wait until you hear the latest: Haley Dunphy isn't pregnant with just one baby. Nope, it's twins for Sarah Hyland's character on the long-running ABC sitcom. In a sneak peek of the Wednesday, Jan. 9 episode posted by People, Haley and Dylan (Reid Ewing) visit the doctor with Claire (Julie Bowen) in tow and learn the big news. The news, understandably, shocks Haley. She wasn't expecting to get pregnant in the first place and riddles off all of her fears, including having a stroller too wide to let her shop in boutiques. But that's when Mama Dunphy springs into action. She's there to reassure...

And baby makes...13? Ten seasons in, Modern Family is doing the most. First, they killed off grandma DeDe Pritchett (Shelley Long), and now they've announced that Haley Dunphy (Sarah Hyland) is pregnant, and not at all prepared to be so. Both of those things happened within two episodes of each other, and according to executive producer and co-creator Chris Lloyd, the surprises aren't over yet. "The way this season was developed, there's a little bit more in the way of kind of real-life events than what you've seen in the past," he tells E! News. "But you know, in life, that happens where nothing at all particularly tumultuous happens, and then four things happen in the span of...

Way to leave fans pregnant with anticipation, Sarah Hyland.
“Modern Family” star Hyland whipped fans into a speculative frenzy on Wednesday, with an Instagram post saying that this week’s episode of the show would deliver a “Bumpy ride!”
“Buckle up for tonight’s brand new episode of @abcmodernfam guys,” Hyland wrote. “It’s gonna be a Bumpy ride!”

The actress also posted a number of photos, two of which depicted her on a bumper car.
However, given that a promo for the series days ago featured an off-camera voice declares “You’re pregnant” — a promo that Hyland reacted to with a Twitter post reading “Nooooomygod” — fans couldn’t help but come up with alternate explanations.
At least one commenter theorized that Hyland’s character on the show, Haley Dunphy, would learn she’s with child.

They are on a roll again on Modern Family Season 9 Episode 21!
The beginning of this season must have been just a small slump because I really like the last couple of episodes. They remind me of the comedy from the first few years of Modern Family.
Let's start with the best storyline, Haley Dunphy. She was all set to meet Arvin's dad and excited about it, but Arvin's mom shows up and throws a monkey wrench into the whole meet.
Typical. Dad is easy-going, mom's the tyrant.
Either way, Arvin dropped the ball, making it seem like he was ashamed of Haley and what she does. That's not who Arvin is, and Haley should've known better.
He's just awkward! I don't think Arvin has a mean bone in his whole body. Yes, he seemed to be embarrassed by Haley, but even I recognized Arvin was trying to shield her from his nutty mother.
