Melbourne, Oct 15 (Ians) India skipper Rohit Sharma says he knows the importance of an India-Pakistan cricket match but will not put undue pressure on himself and his team by constantly thinking about the hype being generated around the contest across the cricketing world.
India will play arch-rivals Pakistan in the Super 12 match in front of a packed McG crowd on October 23, hoping to take revenge for their 10-wicket thrashing in the 2021 T20 World Cup opener in the UAE, but Sharma said there is “no point just talking about it” and putting oneself under pressure.
“(Pakistan skipper) Babar (Azam) is absolutely right. We understand the importance of the game, but there’s no point just talking about it every time and creating that pressure within yourself,” said Sharma during the Captains’ Day interaction on the eve of the commencement of the showpiece event.

Christchurch, Oct 13 (Ians) Captain Babar Azam and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan slammed fifties before Mohammad Nawaz produced a 20-ball blitz to give Pakistan a seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh at the Hagley Oval on Thursday to set up a tri-series final showdown with hosts New Zealand on Friday.
After captain Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das took Bangladesh to a competitive 173/6, Azam (55) and Rizwan (69) produced their eighth century partnership in the format. It was followed by Nawaz hitting five fours and a six in his unbeaten 45 off 20 balls for Pakistan to chase down the target with a ball to spare.
Pakistan made early inroads with the ball by reducing Bangladesh to 41/2 in 5.4 overs. From there, Litton Das (69 off 42 balls) and Shakib (68 off 42 balls) put on 88 runs in 55 balls for the third wicket.

Christchurch, Oct 12 (Ians) Pakistan will have the services of their pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi for the two warm-up games against England and Afghanistan ahead of the Icc T20 World Cup in Australia, after he missed the Asia Cup in the UAE, the seven-match T20I series against England and the Tri-series currently underway in New Zealand due to a right-knee ligament injury.
The young pace bowler, who wrecked India in Pakistan’s 10-wicket win against the arch-rivals in the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE, will join the Babar Azam-led squad in Australia after undergoing a rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the Pcb Medical Advisory Committee.
The two warm-up games are scheduled on October 17 and 19 respectively, following which the team will play India in the blockbuster Super 12 match on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Christchurch, Oct 8 (Ians) Pakistan captain Babar Azam carried his bat through the innings to slam an unbeaten 79 off 53 balls and lead Pakistan to a six-wicket victory over New Zealand to win their second match on the bounce in the ongoing T20I tri-series at Hagley Oval on Saturday.
After fast bowler Haris Rauf led the bowling attack’s good showing by picking three wickets in the penultimate over to restrict New Zealand to 147/8 in their 20 overs, Azam played a sterling knock to take Pakistan home with ten balls to spare, with Shadab Khan chipping in with a cameo of 34 off just 22 balls.
It was a match where everything clicked well for Pakistan, right from being pushed into bowling first. They never let go of the pressure upon the Blackcaps batters, which resulted in Devon Conway and captain Kane Williamson being unable to get going and they consumed a lot of deliveries.
