Johnny Lattner was born on October 24, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He was married to Peggy McAllister. He died on February 13, 2016 in Melrose Park, Illinois, USA.
Inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1979.
Played football (halfback) at the University of Notre Dame, 1951-1953.
Played halfback with the Pittsburgh Steelers, 1954.
His original Heisman Trophy was on display in a restaurant he owned, when the restaurant was destroyed by a fire. The trophy was replaced by the Downtown Athletic Club.
Following his 1954 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he joined the US Air Force for 2 years. He suffered a career-ending knee injury while playing football in the military.
