Benjamin Josiah Tan is a Singaporean actor of Chinese descent. He is fluent in English, Mandarin and Hokkien.
He began acting in Chinese Opera productions when he was 14. From there, he transitioned into stage acting. After graduating from National University of Singapore, Benjamin went on to train at Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in Los Angeles, California.
He made his film debut in 2016, as Ah Hee, in local movie Long Long Time Ago (2016), by Jack Neo. Since then, he has expanded his body of work to include local television series and independent films. In 2017, he was involved in 667 (2017), an anthology film produced by, director Royston Tan. Benjamin landed his first international role in a US CBS TV series, Blood and Treasure Season 2, in 2020. In the same year, he also got cast in an iQIYI television drama, The Ferryman.
In 2020 and 2021, Benjamin also hosted the Asian Television Awards.
Graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration as a Finance major from National University of Singapore.
He knows how to speak Hokkien, a local dialect that not many young Singaporeans can speak today, because he grew up with his grandparents, who only knew Hokkien.
Trained in Chinese Opera for two years in high school.
Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, Los Angeles, is the first acting/theatrical school he has ever attended.
