Dubai, Sep 5 (Ians) Adam Zampa has already tasted success on the big stage by winning an Icc Men’s T20 World Cup title and the Australia spinner wants to complete the double by helping his side hold aloft the Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup trophy in India later this year.
Zampa played a huge part in helping Australia to a first T20 World Cup crown in Dubai in 2021 and will have an even bigger role to play on the sub-continent in October and November when his team chase a sixth 50-over World Cup title.
“Winning that T20 World Cup was one of the best feelings I have had on the cricket field and winning the 50-over World Cup would be a pretty similar feeling I would assume,” Zampa said during the Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup Trophy Tour.
“You don’t get the chance to win World Cups very often.

Durban, Aug 31 (Ians) Australia have handed big-hitting finisher Tim David a maiden Odi call-up for the upcoming series against South Africa, giving him the chance to make a last-minute entry into a World Cup squad for the second time in as many years.
David smashed 64 off just 28 balls to play a pivotal role in Australia’s 111-run win over South Africa in the T20I series opener. His addition in the Odi squad boosts the Australian middle-order missing Steve Smith (wrist injury), and Glenn Maxwell (ankle injury and impending the birth of his first child).
“Tim is already here for the T20 series which offers an opportunity to see how his game can translate to the one-day format. He will provide an extra option for us in that power role at the back end of an innings,” said selector Tony Dodemaide

Melbourne, Aug 18 (Ians) Australia’s premier batter Steve Smith and left-arm pace spearhead Mitchell Starc have been ruled out of the white-ball tour of South Africa due to injuries to the wrist and groin, respectively.
A report in cricket.com.au said despite the duo missing the South Africa tour, they are expected to be fully fit for the Men’s Odi World Cup in India from October 5 to November 19. As a result, Mitchell Marsh will be taking over as Australia’s captain for both white-ball formats in South Africa.
Starc’s absence means uncapped left-arm quick Spencer Johnson will remain on for the Odi leg of the tour after being previously named in the T20I squad. Smith’s absence means Marnus Labuschagne is added to the Odi squad, with Ashton Turner called in as his replacement in the T20I squad.

Melbourne, Aug 15 (Ians) Australia captain Pat Cummins has given every indication he will be fit for this year’s Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup by declaring his injured wrist is recovering well and he is on track to return prior to the six-week tournament in India.
Cummins fractured his wrist while batting during the final Ashes Test against England at The Oval last month and was initially diagnosed to be sidelined for up to six weeks ahead of Australia’s first game at the World Cup against hosts India on October 8.
But Cummins has allayed any fears that he will be battling to prove his fitness prior to that clash, with the fast bowler aiming to travel to South Africa next month to join up with his teammates during their five-match series against the Proteas and then return to playing during the three-game series against India at the end of September.

Melbourne, Aug 7 (Ians) Australia have announced some surprise selections in their 18-player squad for this year’s Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup in India.
Uncapped leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha and inexperienced all-rounder Aaron Hardie are the surprise inclusions, with Test star Marnus Labuschagne the notable omission from Australia’s squad that will be reduced to 15 players closer to the start of the tournament on October 5, reports Icc.
Under Icc regulations squads must be finalised prior to September 28, with Australia’s first game at this year’s World Cup coming against hosts India in Chennai on October 8.
Captain Pat Cummins will be racing against the clock to be fit for that opening contest, after it was revealed the fast bowler picked up a fractured wrist during the recent Ashes series against England.

Kuala Lumpur, July 26 (Ians) Malaysia seamer Syazrul Idrus on Wednesday became the first man to take seven wickets (7/8) in a T20I, achieving the feat against China during the opening game of the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Asia Regional Qualifier B tournament at Bayuemas Oval, here.
All seven wickets taken by Idrus were bowled as he consistently swung the ball into the batters. The pacer broke Peter Aho’s record for the best bowling figures in a men’s T20Is. Playing for Nigeria, Aho had picked up 6 for 5 against Sierra Leone in 2021.
Notably, a total of 12 bowlers had previously claimed six-wicket hauls in a Men’s T20I — including India duo Deepak Chahar and Yuzvendra Chahal, Australia spinner Ashton Agar and Sri Lanka tweaker Ajantha Mendis — but an elusive seven-wicket haul had never been recorded until Idrus’ amazing effort.

New Delhi, April 7 (Ians) Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting feels India should back Suryakumar Yadav ahead of the Odi World Cup to be held at home in October-November, saying the right-handed batter is a kind of a player who can win the side a major event like the World Cup.
In India’s last Odi assignment in March before Ipl 2023 began, Suryakumar was dismissed for a hat-trick of golden ducks as Australia won the three-game series 2-1. He has scored 172 Odi runs at an average of just 12.28 since his last Odi half-century in February 2022.
“Everyone in their career goes through something like that. I mean, I’m not sure I have seen it before where someone’s got three first-ball ducks in a row in an entire series. But look, we’ve all been there. You have your ups and downs as international players.”
“His previous 12 or 18 months have been absolutely outstanding.

Melbourne, April 6 (Ians) Spinner Todd Murphy earned his first national contracts, as Cricket Australia announced the extended 24-player national men’s contract list on Thursday.
Murphy has earned his first national contract after impressing on the Border-Gavaskar India tour, where he claimed a five-wicket haul on Test debut.
He was joined by the fast bowler Lance Morris as first-time contracted players to the national side, with Sean Abbott, Michael Neser and Jhye Richardson also been promoted and offered a contract for the next year.
Dropping out of the list is recently retired former white-ball captain Aaron Finch and spinner Mitchell Swepson, while Matthew Wade, Matthew Renshaw, Peter Handscomb and Matthew Kuhnemann have also been overlooked for a contract.

Mumbai, March 26 (Ians) A half-century in his last One-Day International (Odi), the third and final match of the series against Australia in Chennai, has given Ravichandran Ashwin the confidence to back Virat Kohli to come good in the 50-over World Cup to be held in October-November this year.
Former India captain Kohli, who has gone through a long period of poor form, has regained his batting touch and has scored a majestic hundred in the Ahmedabad Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series and followed it up with a half-century in a losing cause in the third and final Odi in Chennai as India lost the series 1-2.
In a post on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said Kohli is looking very good and will definitely turn it on during the World Cup.
“Usually, when Virat Kohli scores a fifty, he will convert it into an unbeatable hundred and prove why he is the king.

New Delhi, March 24 (Ians) Veteran India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Friday defended the move to promote Axar Patel ahead of Suryakumar Yadav in the sides 21-run loss in the third Odi match against Australia, saying that the strategy would have worked if Axar had negated spin duo of Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar.
Chasing 270, Axar was promoted to number five while Suryakumar was kept at number seven. The move didn’t work as Axar was run out by a brilliant throw from Steve Smith while Suryakumar was clean bowled by Agar for a golden duck for the third time in the series.
“Why did they promote Axar? If they promoted Axar and he negated Zampa and Agar by taking them for 35 or 50 runs in 10 overs then the game was in India’s bag. So the intent was right but the run-out happened. The outcome wasn’t right,” Ashwin said in...

Chennai, March 23 (Ians) In 2021, when Mitchell Marsh was elevated to batting at number three in the T20I team, few would have predicted that it would prove to be a master-stroke as Australia went on to win the T20 World Cup in the UAE.
Cut to 2023, and with David Warner unavailable due to injury, Marsh was made the makeshift opener for ODIs against India, slamming 81 and 66 not out in Mumbai and Visakhapatnam.
When Warner came back for the series decider in Chennai, Marsh retained his spot as an opener and made a quick 47 with the veteran left-handed batter slotted in at number four.
Despite getting Player of the Series award in Australia’s 2-1 series win for making 194 runs at an average of 97, Marsh still believes Warner will slot back as an opener in the build up to the Odi World Cup, to be held in India in October-November.

Chennai, March 23 (Ians) Captain Rohit Sharma has backed his team’s attacking approach despite the Odi series loss against Australia and promised that his side will continue to attack at all costs with the bat during the lead-up to the Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup later this year.
India’s aggressive style while batting again proved their downfall as they fell to a 21-run loss to Australia in the third and final Odi in Chennai on Wednesday night, a result that ultimately cost Rohit’s side the series and the No.1 Odi team ranking.
Australia have 113.286 rating points compared to the Men in Blue’s 112.638. Before the start of the final Odi, India were on top with 114 rating points to Australia’s 112.

Chennai, March 22 (Ians) Leg-spinner Adam Zampa took four wickets while left-arm spinner Ashton Agar chipped in with two scalps to lead Australia to a thrilling 21-run victory over India in the series decider at the M A Chidambaram Stadium here to win the series 2-1.
After posting 269 in 49 overs on a slow pitch where strokeplay wasn’t easy, Zampa and Agar helped Australia fight back in the middle overs to break the back of India’s batting. Even though Mitchell Starc went wicketless, the rest of bowlers along with fiery fielding show and spot-on fielding placements led to India being bundled out for 248 in 49.1 overs.
Despite India having a 65-run opening partnership, they lost four wickets for 43 runs after Virat Kohli and Kl Rahul had put on 69 runs for the fourth wicket. But after Rahul and Kohli fell, the chase went downhill and India ended up on the losing side.

Chennai, March 22 (Ians) After losing the Odi series decider to Australia by 21 runs, India captain Rohit Sharma admitted that they failed in creating crucial partnerships during the match at the M A Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday.
In chasing 270 on a pitch which wasn’t easy for strokeplay, India had a 65-run opening partnership, but Virat Kohli and Kl Rahul had put on 69 runs for the fourth wicket. But after the duo followed by Suryakumar Yadav fell in quick succession, India were put under pressure and were bundled out for 248 in 49.1 overs.
For Australia, leg-spinner Adam Zampa and left-arm spinner Ashton Agar picked four and two wickets respectively to help the visitors’ fight back in the middle overs to break the back of India’s batting.
“I don’t think it was too many runs. The wicket was a little challenging towards the second half. I don’t think we batted well.

Chennai, March 22 (Ians) Leg-spinner Adam Zampa took four wickets while left-arm spinner Ashton Agar chipped in with two scalps to lead Australia to a 21-run victory over India in the series decider at the M A Chidambaram Stadium, here to win the series 2-1.
Despite India having a 65-run opening partnership, India lost four wickets for 43 runs after Virat Kohli and Kl Rahul had put on 69 runs for the fourth wicket. But after Rahul and Kohli fell, the chase went downhill and India ended up on the losing side, which...

Chennai, March 22 (Ians) Fast-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya and left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav pick three wickets each as India bowled out Australia for 269 in 49 overs in the Odi series decider at M A Chidambaram Stadium, here on Wednesday.
Electing to bat first, Australia seemed to have read the conditions well by maximising the powerplay. But despite getting into double figures barring Steve Smith falling for a two-ball duck, none of the batters could make a big score.
A majority of their batters lost their wickets on a slow pitch where shot-making wasn’t easy, especially of aerial shots. Hardik kept banging his deliveries to pick 3/44 while Kuldeep got sharp turn to take 3/56. The duo were supported by Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel taking two wickets each, while Ravindra Jadeja bowled tight lines while conceding only 34 runs in his ten uninterrupted overs.

Chennai, March 21 (Ians) The three-match Odi series against Australia following the four Tests for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy were expected to give a glimpse into India’s preparations for this year’s Odi World Cup at home.
The selectors were planning to Test some players before they finalise the squad for the World Cup. But going into the third match, the selectors may not be much wiser than at the start as the matches have exposed some chinks in the armour.
Both teams have won one match each thus matching the Chennai Odi, the series decider and the last chance for the Aussies to test the fitness of David Warner and Glenn Maxwell before the September ODIs in India and the World Cup.

New Delhi, March 9 (Ians) Australia spinner Ashton Agar has said that he doesn’t “harbour ill will” towards the team after being sent back home to play domestic cricket amid the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.
Agar arrived in India as Australia’s second spinner besides Nathan Lyon, but was overlooked for the first two Tests in Nagpur and Delhi as he struggled in the nets and leapfrogged by fellow left-arm spinner Mathew Kuhnemann.
“It’s a very clear direction forward for me now to just work on it and improve. I harbour no ill will or ill feeling at all, I’m very well supported in that camp, and they’ve kept in constant communication with me … so it’s all in a good place,” Agar was quoted by Cricket.com.au.

New Delhi, March 9 (Ians) Former Australia coach Justin Langer believes left-arm spin all-rounder Ashton Agar could have made an impact with the ball in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in India.
Agar made a comeback to Test cricket through Australia’s third Test against South Africa in Sydney and went wicketless in the drawn match. But when he landed in India for the Test tour, Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann were given places in the playing eleven to team up with Nathan Lyon.
With reports of Agar struggling to get his rhythm in the nets, he was sent back home to turn out for Western Australia in domestic competitions. Agar is scheduled to be back in India for the three ODIs starting on March 17.
“It was really strange because Ash Agar played the last Test in Sydney. That was on a pretty flat wicket to be fair, and he copped a bit of criticism.

Mumbai, Feb 26 (Ians) Coming into the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India after an unbeaten 10-game run, Australia has had an underwhelming series trailing 0-2 following massive three-day defeats in Nagpur and New Delhi.
The Australian went into the first Test in Nagpur without playing any tour match, claiming that the camp that they had in Sydney and Alur in Karnataka was good enough.
They have also been pulled up for some strange selection decisions the top among them being the call to leave out batter Travis Head for the opening Test in Nagpur earlier this month. Australia lost the first Test by an innings and 132 runs and the second by six wickets.
However, according to former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, another key omission for the Test at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (Vca) Stadium in Jamtha was the decision to not pick left-arm spinner, Ashton Agar.

New Delhi, Feb 23 (Ians) Left-arm spin all-rounder Ashton Agar revealed that he was told to keep his “chin up and walk tall” by national selectors after being sent back to Australia from the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, adding that he has “no bitterness” towards the team management.
Agar Agar has flown home to Perth to represent Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield and Marsh Cup. He has been overlooked for the first two Tests in India with Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann, who was not even in the initial squad, preferred.
“It’s not an ideal situation, but you just try and make the best of it,” Agar was quoted as saying by news.com.au. “I’m 29 now and been through plenty of ups and downs in the game. I’m in a fortunate position so it’s nothing that stresses me out too much.

Syndey, Feb 23 (Ians) Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh return to Australian colours for the One-Day International series against India next month. Australia will play India in Mumbai (March 17), Vizag (March 19) and Chennai (March 22) for the ODIs.
Maxwell (broken leg) and Marsh (ankle) have been included in the 16-player squad for the three Odi games which follow the Test Series.
Victorian Maxwell returned to play last week with games in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition and Marsh Sheffield Shield for Victoria while Marsh is expected to play the next two Marsh Cup matches for Western Australia before heading to India.
Jhye Richardson also makes a return to the Australian team having recovered from a hamstring strain which ruled him out of the Bbl finals.

New Delhi, Feb 22 (Ians) With spin all-rounder Ashton Agar being sent home from the Test tour of India, former Australia captain Mark Taylor? is left confused over how the left-armer bowler’s future in Test cricket would look like.
Agar, who played in the Sydney Test against South Africa alongside off-spinner Nathan Lyon last month, has now gone from being Australia’s second-preferred spin option to now not being in the Test scheme of things, especially with Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann given Test debuts in Nagpur and New Delhi respectively.
“I don’t know what his future is as a Test player. They picked him for the Sydney Test, which I thought was a good selection because they were thinking about the series in India. But then they didn’t pick him in India. So I don’t see what sort of future he has left,” Taylor was quoted...

New Delhi, Feb 4 (Ians) Former Australia cricketer Greg Chappell believes the Pat Cummins-led side will have to put their best foot forward in terms of talent and experience during the upcoming four-match series against India as succeeding in the country will take a lot of pluck, planning, patience and persistence.
Australia and India, currently ranked number one and two respectively in both Icc Men’s Test Team Rankings and the ongoing Icc World Test Championship 2023 cycle, will meet in a highly-anticipated four-match series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to be held in Nagpur (February 9-13), New Delhi (February 17-21), Dharamshala (March 1-5) and Ahmedabad (March 9-13).
India are the current holder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, having won the last three series against Australia in 2017, 2018-19 and 2020-21. Australia, on the other hand, are aiming to win a Test series in India after having done so last time in 2004.

New Delhi, Jan 23 (Ians) Former Australia head coach Darren Lehmann has urged the current Test side to pick left-arm spin all-rounder Ashton Agar as the second spinner to partner off-spinner Nathan Lyon for the upcoming four-Test tour of India, ahead of leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson and uncapped off-spinner Todd Murphy.
Agar only has five Test caps to his name since his debut in 2013 and went wicket-less during Australia’s third and final Test match against South Africa in Sydney earlier this month. But Lehmann expects conditions in Nagpur, New Delhi, Dharamshala and Ahmedabad to suit Agar.
“It just gets through the air quicker and some spin and some don’t. The leg spinners sometimes spin it too much, if that makes sense… (for finger spinners) some skid on and you get beaten on the inside and you get an Lbw.
“That’s probably why they’re looking at a finger spinner.

New Delhi, Jan 14 (Ians) Legendary Australia cricketer Ian Chappell believes Australia has a chance of a Test series victory over India under the leadership of a “pretty decent” leader in Pat Cummins. Chappell was a member of Bill Lawry’s famous 1969 side which won the Test series in India 3-1.
Australia’s last series triumph over India came in 2004 under the leadership of Adam Gilchrist and since then, they have been unable to replicate that same result in four successive trips to the country.
But with the four-match series, played for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting from February 9 in Nagpur, Chappell is optimistic about Australia winning against India in challenging sub-continent conditions though he admitted to being concerned about the visitors’ batting.
“Australia have a chance. Bowling-wise, I think they’ll be Ok. They’ll be light on for a second spinner because I don’t know anything about Todd Murphy.

Melbourne, Jan 14 (Ians) Ignored for the upcoming Test series against India, Australia’s white-ball leg-spinner Adam Zampa has vowed not to give up on making his debut in the latest version of the game but would prioritise doing well in white-ball cricket and excel for Australia in the Odi World Cup in India later this year.
Australia’s national cricket selectors on Wednesday selected a four-man spin arsenal for the upcoming four-Test tour of India with rookie spinner Todd Murphy making the grade on the back of some superb performances at the domestic level and for Australia A.
Murphy joins experienced campaigner Ashton Agar and Mitchell Swepson as potential spin partners for Nathan Lyon on a tour. Agar has recently made it back to the Test squad and played the third and final Test against South Africa and continues to be preferred as the national selectors confirmed an 18-player squad for the four-Test Border-Gavaskar series.

New Delhi, Jan 13 (Ians) Former Australian off-spinner Steve O’Keefe is excited about the prospect of young offie Todd Murphy in line for a potential Test debut on tour to India, saying the 22-year-old is as talented as premier spinner Nathan Lyon.
Murphy, 22, got his maiden Test call-up as part of the 18-man tour for the four-Test series of India, picked to be the fourth spinner alongside veteran Lyon, left-arm spinner Ashton Agar and leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson.
Having played alongside Murphy at the domestic level with the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League, O’Keefe has backed Murphy to succeed in India despite having played just seven first-class matches for his domestic team Victoria.
“He’s as talented an off-spinner I’ve seen since Nathan Lyon. Whether it be Shield cricket or him stepping up in the Prime Minister’s game, or the West Indies … he also went over to...

New Delhi, Jan 13 (Ians) Former Australia spinner O’Keefe believes there has been “way too harsh” criticism of left-arm spin all-rounder Ashton Agar’s performance at the Scg Test against South Africa.
Playing in a Test match for the first time since 2017, Agar struggled for rhythm and returned with figures of 0/58 in a rain-hit drawn match. Though he didn’t have an impressive outing at Sydney, Agar was still named as one of four spinners for the Test tour of India, starting from February 9 in Nagpur.
“Oh yeah, it was three wickets that fell to spin in that Test. He got to bowl 20 overs, his first game in the Test arena (in Australia) … on a track that didn’t offer anything, really. There wasn’t a lot of turn, there were some footmarks there for Nathan Lyon, but they were footmarks outside of the eye-line.”

Sydney, Jan 11 (Ians) Australia’s national cricket selectors on Wednesday selected a four-man spin arsenal for the upcoming four-Test tour of India with rookie spinner Todd Murphy making the grade on the back of some superb performances at the domestic level and for Australia A.
Murphy joins experienced campaigner Ashton Agar and Mitchell Swepson as potential spin partners for Nathan Lyon on a tour on which their bowling resources are expected to be stretched to the full.
Agar has recently made it back to the Test squad and played the third and final Test against South Africa and continues to be preferred as the national selectors confirmed an 18-player squad for the four-Test Border-Gavaskar series.
Swepson had played four of Australia’s five Tests on the subcontinent last year for a return of 10 wickets at 45 and was favoured over white-ball leg-spinner Adam Zampa

Sydney, Jan 1 (Ians) Australia head coach Andrew McDonald said on Sunday that the playing eleven for the third and final Test against South Africa, starting from January 4, will be decided only until they see the pitch at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg), which is expected to be spin-friendly.
“One thing I’ve learned around wickets recently is never assume anything. I think we’ll just wait and see what unfolds from the ground staff in terms of the wicket they prepare. But what I will say around that is that we feel as though we’ve got a squad for whatever that surface may be. We’ve got pretty much all bases covered,” McDonald was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
McDonald added that Australia’s selectors wanted a left-arm orthodox to complement the right-arm off-spin of Nathan Lyon, which is why Ashton Agar was included in squad for the Sydney Test.

Melbourne, Dec 30 (Ians) With Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green battling injuries, Australia’s national selectors on Friday called in reinforcements in the form of spinner Ashton Agar and batter Matthew Renshaw for the third and final Test against South Africa, starting in Sydney on January 4.
Australia has taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series going into the Sydney Test but injuries have hampered them in the process as bowlers have faced issues with skipper Pat Cummins, Nathan Hazlewood and now Mitchell Starc facing various issues at various times.
Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green suffered injuries in the innings and 182-run victory against South Africa in the second Test against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. With sweltering conditions in Melbourne, David Warner, who struck a double hundred in his 100th Test, also had to retire hurt due to cramps.

Sydney, Nov 20 (Ians) Australia pace bowler Josh Hazlewood’s experience of leading the side for the first time has been “pretty exciting” as well as “nerve-wracking” as he guided the team to an Odi series victory against England at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday.
The 31-year-old quick made his captaincy debut with regular Odi skipper Pat Cummins not in the XI and guided Australia to a 72-run victory against the recently-crowned T20 World champions England to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
After setting a competitive 280/8 in the allotted 50 overs, Australia dismissed England for just 208 in 38.5 overs to ensure a big win against Jos Buttler’s side.
With precious little captaincy experience, Hazlewood admitted he was nervous before the seond Odi. Hazlewood has become Australia’s 28th men’s Odi captain after he was handed the reins with “Cummins’ workload being managed ahead of effectively five back-to-back...

Melbourne, Nov 8 (Ians) Left-hand batter Travis Head has been included in Australia’s 14-member One-day International (Odi) squad in place of the now-retired Aaron Finch for the three-match series against England, scheduled to commence soon after the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup here.
While announcing the squad, chairman of selectors George Bailey said, “Our focus is to continue to build a squad with an eye to next year’s World Cup (in India) under Pat (Cummins) as the new Odi captain, so it’s an important series.
“Travis Head returns in place of Aaron Finch having played well in Pakistan and Sri Lanka earlier in the year. He has demonstrated flexibility in the types of roles he can play in our Odi line-up. Our next opportunity in the Odi format will be in India next year which will allow us to experience similar conditions as for the World Cup in October,...

Sydney, Oct 29 (Ians) Australia coach Andrew McDonald believes more Covid-19 cases could crop up within their T20 World Cup squad ahead of must-win matches against Ireland and Afghanistan.
The sight of a masked-up Matthew Wade on Friday evening interacting with teammates from a distance at the McG during rain delays may have been jarring for some in a country that had, until recently, enforced some of the world’s strictest bio-security rules.
Speaking about the rising number of Covid-19 cases amongst players at the ongoing Icc Men’s T20 World Cup, McDonald said it’s possible that more cases could crop up in his squad.
“He’s been tucked away in a change room by himself, which he would hate because he needs people around him to keep him entertained,” captain Aaron Finch told the host broadcaster on Friday.

Perth, Oct 25 (Ians) Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa looks set to miss out on Australia’s must-win Icc T20 World Cup Super-12 clash against Sri Lanka after testing positive for Covid-19.
Ahead of the match here later on Tuesday, a team spokesperson confirmed the 30-year-old Zampa recently returned a positive test but is only displaying minor symptoms.
Under current regulations set by the International Cricket Council (Icc) and national authorities, Covid-positive players are allowed to take part, though it is believed Australia may instead opt for Ashton Agar’s selection according to Australia’s Herald Sun, who first reported the story.
The publication stated that despite Zampa’s minor symptoms, there are concerns in the Australian camp about the 30-year-old joining his teammates in action.

Sydney, Oct 21 (Ians) The Super 12 stage of the Men’s T20 World Cup will open up with the re-match of the 2021 final at Dubai between Australia and New Zealand at a full-house Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg) on Saturday.
As another chapter of the trans-tasman rivalry awaits cricket fans, the eyes of both Australia and New Zealand will be on the skies apart from the pitch and on-field conditions with 90 rain forecast threatening to disrupt the proceedings.
“We haven’t seen the pitch either. It was covered all this morning. We won’t confirm an 11 just yet because, if it’s short, then it will be likely to change. So we just have to wait and see tomorrow much closer to the match and have a look at the pitch,” said New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson on rain being a factor in the pre-match press conference.

Brisbane, Oct 19 (Ians) India’s second warm-up match against New Zealand in the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup at The Gabba on Wednesday has been abandoned due to persistent rain.
Earlier, the start of the warm-up match had been delayed due to rain. “It’s raining here at The Gabba currently. Cut off time for a 5-over-a-side game is 8.46 Pm (4.16 Pm Ist),” tweeted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (Bcci).
Earlier in the day, rain had washed out the practice match between Pakistan and Afghanistan at the same venue. With heavy rain still hampering the start of play between India and New Zealand, the officials, including umpire Paul Reiffel, reckoned that the weather wouldn’t clear up quickly, thus paving the way for the match to be abandoned.
India had defeated defending champions Australia by six runs in their first warm-up match at The Gabba on Monday.

For Australia, fast bowler Kane Richardson was the pick of the bowlers with 4/30 in his four overs.
Pushed into batting first, Rahul was the aggressor right from the word go when he got a brace of fours in the first two overs of Richardson and Mitchell Starc, pulling, flicking and swivelling with ease in the rest of his stay at the crease.
He then smacked Pat Cummins for a six and a four inside three balls of his first over, and went on to collect three fours and a six off Marcus Stoinis, who conceded 20 in his first over of the day. Rahul reached his fifty with a wristy flick over mid-wicket fence off...

Melbourne, Oct 11 (Ians) Australian all-rounder Mitch Marsh has termed young allrounder Cameron Green an “incredible” talent and said the 23-year-old’s willingness to learn from experienced players makes him special.
Green was a surprise exclusion from defending champions Australia’s 15-member T20 World Cup squad but could likely get a place in the side after it was revealed on Monday that left-arm spinner Ashton Agar is in a race against time to get fit for the showpiece event.
Green has had an incredible 2021/22 Ashes series and recently smashed two half-centuries in the three-match away T20I series against India, besides also being useful with the ball.
“He’s (Green) been incredible and he’s got a really good head on his shoulders, I think for Cam especially these last 12 months, it’s the amount of learning he has done,” Marsh told Sen 1170 Mornings on Tuesday.
“He’s been put in a lot of different scenarios,...
